for the past 5 or so months, i have had my dealer checking with his distributors on several colt models for me, none of which have become available. i talk to him at least monthly. just talked to him again, and he said that they had placed an order that morning for several items, he had asked about my request, and still nothing. so now i am trying to think of what is really behind my models being invisible or nonexistant.

i asked him to look for a O1991 governement and an O1918 Black Army.

so here is what i am wondering about:

1) is demand that high right now that there is truly nothing available?
2) what is colt's current production schedule calender? are they making the 1991's? i figure they are well finished with the black armys, but i dont know..
3) is my dealer clueless? (i don't really think so; they have done me really well in the past)

right now my dealer has an SA GI 1911 government in his case. used, but by golly looks brand new. couldn't have had more than a mag thru it, and has nary a scratch or any other sign of wear. no box or anything else, just pistol. he wants 450 for it.

assuming this is reasonable (and it seems so to me. thoughts?), i am getting really interested in it. asked him to hold it for me.

so the question is, as soon as i plunk down on this SA, which is a) a pistol, b) a 1911, c) a 45, d) by all accounts, a decent weapon, e) available, and f) almost half of what i'd pay for a colt (which i am willing to pay for, but, hey), is one or both of my colts going to come available in two or so months? or are the waiting lists getting that long? are times really a-changing?

i am in mississippi; does that have anything to do with availability or anything? i mean, we dont have a dallas or an atlanta here...........

looking forward to opinions, advice, experience, insider knowledge, classified intelligence, reprimands, scoldings, enlightenments, revelations, epiphanies, etc....

im no expert, but i think getting them can be tough for a store to deal with.
my local seems to try, and gets them one every now and then, i recently bought a new 01991 from him. he gets a pistol, next day its gone. but i see them on gunbroker etc...budsguns seems to deliver quite a few. they are out there...my take it is it isnt as easy for the dealer and he has to shop like i do.

but i guess they are selling every one they make...

like i said...uneducated opinion.

Ditto the location... and while we don't have a Dallas or Atlanta, we do have some very good dealers who must actively compete with the bigger sellers in such places. My local dealer seems to do fairly well as of late, though... recently these two came in...

NIB Colt Combat Elite & NIB Colt Gold Cup Trophy (http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=59033)

which joined a third NIB Colt 1911A1 in his display case... I believe that one is a stainless satin finish... almost a Gold Cup... black rubber grip panels with target adjustable sights IIRC.

Not too many weeks past, he had also a NIB Colt Series 70 Custom Replica stainless... it's gone now... don't know who the lucky buyer was.

Uhhh... there was this NIB "O1918 Black Army" for sale at the same time... perhaps I shouldn't say "who" snatched that one away... :nono: ;)

My local very small dealer has no trouble getting new Colt's. Several months ago he got me a new Combat Elite....2 days! He gets them from Jerry's Sports Center, a distributor in Pa. I'm sure he can get them there.....if he wants to. If not, I've bought lots off Gunbroker. YMMV.

My dealer uses Sports South Inc and he said they show to have 4 - 01991's in stock. He said RSR and Lipseys are good wholesalers for Colt. He got in my new model Combat Elite in a couple of weeks ago and usually has Colts readily available.

thanks for the quick replies - esp. that last one. i will take that info back to my dealer....

i dont exactly have 'expendable income'. my dealer has a VERY flexible layaway which i find very beneficial. he knows im good for it, so you'd think he wouldnt mind going ahead and snagging one of those for me....we'll see. think i've seen some stuff here about bud's terms. not as easy for me as my dealer's.....

does anyone know if the 1918's production is completed?

ohhhh yeah. as for you, cliff,

Jim my dealer has told me that instead of him now being able to get me a new Colt in a day or two it may take up to a week.
The production has increased at the Colt plant but the demand over the last week or so has sky rocketed.
It would be a little longer fir an AR style rifle.

Our member Scott Gahimer has an O1911 for sale in the Flea Market right now (unless it has already been spoken for). That's the original, brushed blue M1911 replica model.

Yes, they sure seem to have the inventory and the pricing, but reading this entire thread will then allow you to make an informed buying decision...

Someone else might have better info, but based upon my personal observations, I'm guessing the run is less than half complete.

That's a fairly good deal on your Springfield G.I., if a parkerized or Armory Kote OD green. If it's a stainless G.I., you really ought to grab it at $450!

Colt hasn't been making the O1918 for that long yet, so I'm sure they will be available for a bit longer.

A lot depends on timing and the distributor used, in the past 3 weeks we have gotten in three O1991s and three O1918s (all are gone but one O1991).

Just came across this if anyone is looking for one. Nice looking model for sure. The pics I have seen on this board of the black finish should be done more often.
