Who makes in your opinion the best 9x23 barrel? I only see them from Nowlin in Brownells. I don't particularly want a ramp but if I had to go with one which would be the best one and why? Also can a .38 Super barrel be reamed to 9x23? Or would that even be necessary? Can a 9mm barrel? Thanks for all the good info on the site

I'm wanting to build a 9x23 with a 9x19 practice barrel so any helpful advice on that would be appreciated

I can't be much help, but would like to suggest that you might really want a ramped barrel for 9x23. It's a high pressure round, and I think fully supporting the case head, the way you do with a ramped barrel, would be a good idea.

I have a Schuemann officer barrel 9x23 which is ramp. Its just a .355 barrel that was reamed for 9x23 but could have been used for any of the 9mm.

If you look on Nowlin's website, they make 9x23 barrels in 4 1/4", 5", and 6" in both ramped and non ramped versions, as well as pre-fitted with bushing and oversized. They also have the same sizes and confidurations available in 9x19.

I was really wanting to stay away from a ramp, and was preferring a Kart EZ fit for obvious monetary reasons. I have access to a lathe, mill, tig etc but hate to buy all the arbors, jigs, and cutters necessary for ramping my frame and turning the barrel...

Try an email to Dane Burns at Burns Custom...

He is quite the 9x23 guy and has answered questions for me in the past regarding my gun...

The Clark/Para ramp should not need any special cutters. Any milling shop should have the right cutter for that cut. Which I dont remember what size anymore sorry.

I remember reading that one of the advantages of the 9x23 is very strong brass so you don't need a ramped barrel.

Can you find 9x23 ammo and/or brass anymore?

Seemed like a better mousetrap than the 38 super and other varients, but didn't sell for whatever reason.

My 9x23mm I put together on a Caspian frame, with an unramped Colt barrel. I have shot some pretty warm loads through it, and never had any problems from lack of case support. I have used Starline 9x23 Super Comp brass, with a slightly lighter load, and no problems with it, either. .38 Super might be so thin as to require a ramped barrel if loaded hot, but that is not a problem with genuine Winchester brass in a 9x23mm Winchester barrel.

I have also loaded some warm 357 SIGs and fired them in a Gov't model pistol with no problems. Ramped barrels differ, and some may fail to provide enough case support, but not necessarily all. Strong brass is what I prefer.
