View Full Version : Off centered front sight

I have a novak cut front sight, and it is quite off centered, so I assume that the pin hole in the slide is also off centered.
Is there a novak cut front sight that has no hole in it? I just want to cover the hole with the sight itself.

First of all, how off center is it? And how did you figure it out? I mean did you measure it from the slide flats or you just eyeballed it?

The slide flats are often unequal in relation to the barrel and bushing. Some are off as much as .010" and some are on the money. The only way to accurately center the front sight is to use a height gauge and compare inside of barrel to the sight from each side and center accordingly.

It is quite annoying to see the looks of the sight off centered, take a look at it.

I am thinking of replacing th front sight with a sight that has no hole, this sight is quite loose if I will remove the locking pin.

That may well be an off-side cut dovetail. To do a simple check, take a piece of flat metal (aluminum will do fine) and lay it on the right side of the slide. Measure from the inside surface of the metal to the left end of the sight's blade. Then place the flat metal on the left side of the slide and measure from its inside surface to the right end of the sight's blade. That will give you a rough idea of how well centered your sight is.
If you want to be more precise, follow log man's approach above.

If, or when the sight post is centered. I would file the side of sight base until it appeared centered on the slide. Use locktite to help secure it in place.
Best of Luck!
