Hi.

I'm modelling a complete M1911A1 in Pro/Engineer from a complete set of original blueprints.

I'm having some problems modelling the safety lock, part number in title field. The information regarding the cuts machined into the pin on the inside face of the part are suspect and I can't achiece a satisfactory result. The blueprints I'm using are pdf files and they are not very clear.

If anyone can photograph this component for me and send me some images I'd be most grateful. I'm based in the UK so I can't run down to the local gun store for help. Owning a water pistol in the UK could get you thrown in jail! If you could send me a message via this site, I will forward an e-mail address to you.

Thanks in advance

Risking to appear stupid, what's "Pro/Engineer"?

It's a 3D design tool, a drafting tool where you create a 3 dimensional representation of the product you are designing

The area in pink is the bit I need to see some photos of

Hopefully this is not the same PDF file you are working with, and you find it helpful.

Hi Rich

Thanks for the link

Yep. It's the same set of prints I'm working from! :o

The detail of the machined cuts doesn't make sense when you actually create the model in 3D, so I need a couple of photos of these machined cuts to clarify the design intent.

Does that help any?

there are some .igs files out and about the net, but I don't know if they go into such detail.

On a separate subject, any idea why Webley stopped making the Hurricane? I'm really mad about that!

That's great John. Do you have the same pic with the red arrows removed?

The intersection between the sear clearing area and the sear engagement area is the bit I'm trying to get right

Thanks again :o

Sorry, no. The sear engagement area is in square angle to the sear cleaning area. In reality the space left above the sear engagement area, is the area where the sear moves, when the safety is in the off (down) position.

I believe that you solved the man's problem! Where else can a 1911 lover go, make a first post, and receive so much TLC! :)
