Went looking for a 1911 in 9mm today and found this Colt Combat Commander (9mm) at my local Gun Show.

Sorry about the 'weak' photos but it's a cold rainy day and I'm trapped inside.
Can't get to the range till Tuesday :( It came with 3 Colt mags - 1 blue and 2 SS. Need a few more - any good reliable 9mm mags???

Wife said Xmas came early :p :appld:

Congrats on your new Commander! http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

That's a very nice "early" Christmas present... and the photos look well done IMHO. :)

Very nice. The 9mm Commanders have a loyal following and you sure found a pretty one.
When will you be able to try it out?

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words :)

Hunter, Looks like Tuesday will be the first range day. I have the gun, 3 mags and a case of Remington 9mm. I'm dying here!

Nice piece. My Combat Commander 9mm likes Mecgar mags. YMMV.

Nice addition! I have ordered 9mm mags from Kings Gunworks. The pices are ok and they work without a hiccup. I believe Checkmate will have some 9mm's one day.

Wow... that's a sweet gun. Whoever had it before you took very good care of it.

I've had good luck with Metal Form mags in my .38 Super Commander for what it's worth... but I don't currentlly own a 9.

I have a couple of Metalform mags which have worked flawlessly for quite a while in my 9mm Commander.

No, no, you got it all wrong. That's not your Commander. It is mine, MINE ALONE. I've left it to you for safe-keeping, have no doubt about that. One day, I'll come and pick it up.

super commander.....that sounds cool. supercommander... :pHa... never thought of it that way. It's a solid gun, 51-vintage, original (or close to it)... high mileage but well maintained. I'd post a photo but it would be an embarrassment compared to MCPO's minty 9mm. One of these days I'll send it to John Harrison for overhaul and facelift.

I hear it said that "Commanderitis"... a very dreaded strain of the incurable "Coltitis", causes this in perfect healthy and logically thinking people.

Something akin to the mirages a parched and dying of thirst man would see while wandering hopelessly lost in an endless dry desert... :(

Beautiful 9mm! Congrats on the find. Hey, and never apologize about "weak" pics of a Colt. Colt's look good in any kinda pic. No makeup or air brush needed on the real deal.

I'm looking for a 1911 9mm.... guess I'll have to start scouting my gun shows when they are in town, because the local gun stores never have any... Guess I could order one.

Anyway... Congrats! It's a beautiful gun... I'm sure it'll get plenty of use!

Again, thanks for all the kind words gang. John - come heavily armed! ;)

I had in-laws over last night and had to spend this morning with them as well. Nice folks, but come on - I have a new purty Colt I'm dying to play with!!

Field stripped her this afternoon and found no rust at all. The guy I bought it from said he got it from an estate sale, so not a lot of history know. The s/n is 70**58xxx. I'm guessing '82 or '83 but plan to call Colt tomorrow for the year. Might even spring for the $$ and get the history.

Bought a box of Winchester 147gr JHP for Tuesdays range trip. That way I get to test her with ball & JHP.

Did notice when I had it stripped that the rear sight is slightly to the right???

Will update after the range trip Tuesday. Thanks for the info on the Metalform mags. If all goes well Tuesday may have to do some online shopping.

I think your nice piece should be a '77. 1980 changed to 80 "bee ess" 1001

Dead on Paul. Called Colt this afternoon & they confirmed Manuf. Yr. as 1977.

Got over to the indoor range this morning and was impressed with the new gun. Shot 100 rds of Remington 115gr FMJ and not a hiccup with the gun or from the mags.

Shot another 18 rds of Win. 147gar JHP w/same results. A sweet little shooter!! I do love 9mm!!

Using an 8" Caldwell 'Orange Peel' target, and the 18 rds of the JHP at 10yds:
9rds in the 10 circle
6rds in the 9 circle &
3rds in the 8 circle

The gun is a much better shooter than I am :p
The indoor range isn't well lit and those iron sights do require some serious concentration.
