I saw one... and held it in my hands... :D
This is surely a spectacular example of Colt's pistol making art... http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif
No photos save this one "borrowed" from the forum...

My local gunstore called yesterday morning and informed me this was in... along with a NIB blued Colt Gold Cup Trophy O5870CS. I didn't wait too long to go check these two new Colts out.
My cursory examination revealed nothing less than the best... fit and finish is first class all the way. There's not one iota of quality discrepancy on either one.
I'm not certain if Colt's new CNC production capability contributed to the making of the Combat Elite or the Gold Cup Trophy that I looked at... but I will assure everyone, Colt is on their game with these! :appld:

Cliff I have sent my rough draft of the new Combat Elite review to be edited. I hope to have the review and pictures sent to John soon.
The new Colt Combat Elite is a nice pistol.

Rich & Dave,
Colt's Combat Elite is a "looker"... and you really have to view those stocks to appreciate how finely crafted they are. This is a Colt that simply begs to be taken home. The sales guy was quick to point out the solid FLGR too. He was quite taken with this new Colt. The Gold Cup Trophy was equally stunning in execution.
Poor Hunter... having to do that review and likely wanting to keep the Combat Elite. If he sent it back, such must have been like giving away the prettiest puppy from a litter... you know, the one you wanted to hang on to. Of course, he might have done just that... guess we'll have to wait to find out!

OK... you all are making me lock my wallet in the gun safe again. And then try and forget the combo!
Think I better just go cut the grass. To much candy around here for the budget.

Cut grass? It snowed here today and the grass hasn't been doing much growing in these parts in quite a few weeks. It must be rather warm in New Mexico still...... I bet you don't have snow for Christmas, either. I could do for some nice weather in January and February, but I still like snow, sloppy mush and cold until Christmas.

I'll keep looking :(

I know of one dealer in the Denver area that has had one for about a month now. $899.95 + tax.
It is very, very nice. For me the only down side is the full length guide rod, never liked it-never saw a need for it. I realize it's an easy fix but it seems out of place in pistol with "Combat" in it's title. Oh yeah-I don't like front serrations on the slide.
Hey, I'm a grumpy old(er) guy, I can get away with that can't I? :D
Seriously though, the one example I've seen is really nice. Fit and finish is excellent. The beavertail fits perfectly and it has a genuine Novak rear sight! If I was in the market for a 5" 1911, this is the one I'd buy.

My wife just ordered one of these from Davidson's for me as a Christmas present. She will call the local dealer tomorrow and verify that everything is good-to-go on our end.
This will be my first 1911.

The beavertail is one of the best fitments I've seen of this type. http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

I just ordered a couple from a distributor today...they'd been out of them for a while, but seem to have received a supply now. I've only handled a couple in person, but they look really well built as far as fit and finish go. That two-tone sure is pretty!

How about 9mm and a 40 cal? 9's and 40's are very popular now, the public buys what cops buy and those are very popular cop calibers.

I hope ya'll know how much money this forum has cost me, after reading this I ordered one from Davidson's today, but I think it's a better investment than the stock market.

fyi there's a dealer in the Denver area that has been running them at $899.95 and still had a couple last week. Doesn't do internet sales but that should be top $ (at least outside of CA).
