Darn... I was trying a friends kydex holster out and it noticeably scratched the finish on my new GI :(
Any solutions to scratches?

It depends on the depth of the scratch, but if it's down to metal, it may be a good idea to get one of those cold blue touch up pens or something to protect the bare slide. If not, then you can always use some very, very light rubbing compound or something similar just to smooth out the area. It won't get rid of the scratch but it will possibly keep the finish from chipping/flaking (it's not likely to be a problem but again depending on the scratch...). Kydex is rough on finishes, but it has its advantages. The best advice on the subject I've heard was a guy told me: "The only way to keep a gun from getting holster wear is to keep it out of a holster, so don't worry too much about it." Refinishing is cheap, and can be a DIY project if all else fails. I always hate to get that first scratch in a new pistol, though :)

I always hate to get that first scratch in a new pistol, though :) I tend to think of it like getting that first scratch or dent on a new pickup truck - once you get it, then you can really use it for its intended purpose! All the anxiety is gone!! :D

Exactly! It's a GI version! It's a plain workhorse. Kinda like having a Humvee and not taking it off-road :D

CheersWell most of the anxiety is gone anyway . It still bothers me a little bit but not nearly as bad as that first scratch .

I personally don't own a kydex holster for that very reason. My leather holsters and other lined holsters do add some wear to my guns but don't "scratch" like the kydex. There are some nice lined kydex holsters that are a better option IMO. I know what you mean. That first scratch can almost make you sick. If you get a chance post a pic. Others on this forum that are much more qualified than I am may be able to help you fix it.

Brownells Oxphoblue is the best cover product I have found... It may not match the original color but you can just coat the whole gun...
As for me... scratches are character... Kydex marks on the roscoe just show you was a practicin' with your best friend...Draw your friend... put Mr. front sight on the thing what needs a shootin' and press Mrs. Trigger in that loving sort of way so's the flame thrower don't move whilst is is commencin' to start a roarin' and a buckin' and drillin real nice holes in said object what needed shootin'....Yeah Baby... drawin'...shootin'...reloadin'... start over.... we start with shootin' cause all guns is always loaded right? :D

Just get over it bud.I do have a kydex holster and it does rub off the finish but it does not really scratch the finish. It's kinda like a door ding on your car you pretty much accepted it and I think it looks natural after a while.I feel your pain.

I use a Kydex holster for my truck gun because the Kydex won't absorb moisture and hold said moisture next to the gun. But then again the gun is stainless and there's no finish to worry about.
My brother has let 2 truck guns get rusty by leaving them in a gun rug for extended periods of time without oiling or cleaning. The gun rugs have a bad habit of absorbing moisture and rusting the gun, same thing goes for leather holsters.
Kydex that has grit on the inside scratches just like you experienced but won't promote rust like leather or gun rugs. A thorough cleaning of the inside of the Kydex holster on a regular basis is always a good idea. A regular oiling is also a good idea.

Thank you for all the input. I found one of those touch up pens at a local gunstore which worked really well. The kydex holster was nice but i had to return it for leather which i find more comfortable. I store my gun everynight in the safe and make sure it gets lubricated every other week.
