Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked before,

I have the chance to buy a NIB Colt Special Combat Government .45 in hard chrome finish.

Here comes the question, I pretty sure that Colt does not apply hard chrome finish directly at the factory due to EPA regulations, it should be made by an outside partner. Maybe Accurate Plating and Weaponry? Any idea who is the partner?

I am asking this question because I do not like mainspring housings with maxi well, so I am thinking of replacing it with a flat S&A or Ed brown standard mainspring housing and then send it to the company who makes the hard chrome finishes for Colt in order to match the overall finish of the pistol.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance,

Javi

I have one in hard chrome and have absolutely no clue who does the plating for them.
You should be able to have it plated to match pretty close by most any of the places that do firearms. The S&A magwell was a plus for me, I have them on several of my 1911's.
Post a pic if you get it.
The grips on mine are cut to match the magwell, so you may even be wanting to change them as wel.

Hi Joni,

Sure I would like to take a look to the S&A magwell.

Althought right now limited only to a wonderful Colt Gunsite pistol stainless and a Series 70 reproduction stainless custom tuned by the Colt Custom Shop, I am proud to say that I have owned nearly all Colt current production models of the last 15 years, but the hard to find and expensive SCG (about $3000 here) is one of the few Colt 1911 models (along with the Delta Elite) that I have neither owned or tested.

Thanks,

PD

Grips are not a problem, I have an small collection from Aluma, Herrets, Hogue and Woodgrips and Truivory (I collect also 1911 grips)

Joni,

Thank you very much for the pic,

The magwell is without any kind of doubt an Smith&Alexander.

Javi

You have an impressive collection of S&W revolvers.

Javi,

Here is a picture of mine. It isn't hard chrome as you can tell but you might be able to see the s&a magwell. I'm like you...I don't care for magwells at all. However, I leave this one alone simply because it is a SCG. Please don't think that means I think you should as well. I wish I could give you some insight on whom colt sends the pistols too. Accurate does a great job on they're hard chrome so I've been told. I'll see if I can find out for you later today.

Joni, Justin Time,

Thanks so much for sharing your pics, the hard Chrome SCG looks great but the blue/nickel is gorgeous!

Justin Time, I think that you are right, maybe I should leave the magwell alone just because the it is one of the main features of the SCG, in fact all my Colts are factory stock.

I will post some pics of my NIB SCG when received (at the end of the year)

Have a nice weekend,

Javi

I put a S&A magwell on most of my pistols I shoot regularly. It really does speed mag changes and it doesn't have to be fitted if you don't want, it is a drop in piece.
