Here's something I may have written about, but a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. This modification is easy to do with a needle file and allows easy insertion of the slide stop.

Here's a slide stop ready to push straight in.

The additional value of doing this over just beveling the slide stop lug is it doesn't alter the lug profile so the mag follower is less apt to jump over it as one that's beveled.

Hey Log Man, I've been proclaiming this mod every since I first saw it in my Talon.

Actually, the notch doesn't have to be so deep.

Hey log, did you do the mod yourself or did that one come that way from the factory?

I am sure Log did this by himself. All you need is a jewelers triangular file. A frame saver indeed!!

I made this mod the last time I saw it mentioned here on the forum (it was probably Log that mentioned it) and it works great! I'm planning on making this mod on all my slide stops from now on.

I use a round needle file, and yes I did the ones pictured and had never seen it before, but felt sure that others have done this also.

I was just curious if you refinished the slide stop or if you had the whole gun refinished since you made the mod. Or, did you just touch it up with something?

Due to my love of working on my own guns and the desire to do all the work myself I built a hot tank a few years ago just so I could alter parts and guns of course and maintain the finish above cold blue quality. I keep enough extra parts on hand to build several guns and tend to clean up new parts as they come in just for the fun of it and refinish every thing I get. Many after market parts are cold blued when you receive them. I'm refinishing a Kimber for a friend and the plunger tube, ejector, thumb safety, mag catch and grip safety where all originally cold blued. LOL A good job, but cold blue. You can tell the difference by using a weak acid, hot blue will disappear in a few seconds while cold blue will not.

I hope to one day be able to work on guns like you do. The hot tank thing is really cool!
