Looks like Talo is going to come out with another limited edition. Suggested retail is about $1,399 I believe. I saw it listed on a distributor's website and they had it shown as Series 1991 Commander Model O4691RCC. Looks pretty, but I wish it were a 9mm!

Very nice! But.........How does one jewel a Grip safety? .........and........why? That and the hammer ruins it for me........yes, I guess I must be the negative naysayer.
But it sure beats dragons and unicorns on the slide. :p

Most grip safeties quickly show scratches and rub marks on the sides, so jeweling it would prevent the gun from showing wear in that area from merely handling it. I don't really like the looks of the jeweling, but it beats a large patch of bare metal from where the safety rubs on the frame.

I really like nice rich blue finishes and pretty wood. My Talo GCNM is right up there with my RRA Limited Match in the finish department.

Joni,
Would you mind posting a pic of the 2 together to compare them?
Joni Lynn
11th November 2008, 17:44
They really don't compare well, the finish on the Talo is of a much higher polish but the RRA is one of the finest polish jobs I've seen on a 1911. It's hard to find a stray mark on it anywhere.
I don't have many pics, but I post a couple individual shots.

Wow! Those are both gorgeous! I really like both of those finishes. My next 1911 will have a finish similar to one of those. If you had to pick, which pistol do you like the most? Thanks for your quick response with the pics.

Thanks.
They each have their good points. Now that the RRA has had it problems fixed it's a superb gun and extremely accurate. It gets more range use. (the Les Baer's get more though)

11th November 2008, 19:15
What is the finish on the RRA? I'm wondering how it would hold up on a carry gun. I am guessing that the colt's finish would wear quickly?
Joni Lynn
11th November 2008, 19:19
It's just blueing. I doubt either would hold up well to carry use.

I've exchanged a few emails from a really nice guy named Bob at Talo. Extremely fast responses to my questions, too. He said that they're shipping the Colt RCC this week, so I'll be watching my distributor's web site close so I can order a couple. If the finish is as fantastic as the Talo GCNM, it should be awesome!

It'll definitely be a great looking 1911. I'll look forward to more pics of these when they start showing up.

Does anybody know if it is a Series 80??? The finish looks great, the trigger looks out of place to me though. Does anybody have pics of the GS?

28th November 2008, 18:13
I'm sure it's a Series 80 pistol since it's based on the O4691. And I thought it was interesting that it shows it as 8+1 capacity like an XSE while the O4691 has a 7+1 capacity. And Talo says "The gun has a Gold Cup barrel & specs."
This is from a distributors catalog:
Colt Series 1991 Commander 45 ACP
ROYAL COMBAT COMMANDER 45ACP
Model:Series 1991 Commander
Caliber:45 ACP
Capacity:8+1
Finish:Blue
Frame:Steel Frame
Sights:Fixed Sights
Barrel Length:4 1/4"
Should be a fun pistol...sure hope they get some in soon!

Thanks clug ;) I sure wish they would make a Commander without the extra safety again. :( A 9mm would be heaven too. :D They would make a killing on that reissue.

I have not seen any signs of this puppy yet. I came up with the idea that it would be soooo cool to have the Commander one with the same serial number as the Government National Match that I have.
So I emailed Talo and they said the matching serial number was sent to one of their distributors. So I called them and they still had it unallocated. I could not dial my dealer fast enough and they were able to order this baby from the distributor.
I should have it in about a week and a half. How nice to have a matched set!
This means that this should now be obtainable.

I emailed TALO and asked them if they had any plans to have a 9mm Commander like this one and they responded that it was a good idea, but that things were tight right now. One of these in 9mm would probably be living in my safe right now if they made them.

Saw my first one in person last weekend. And, yes, it's one beautiful pistol! Bluing looks the same as on the Talo Gold Cup National Match (not a surprise!). Price was outrageous, too. This particular vendor is known for his high prices on hard to get items. They're at the distributor's now, but I don't expect them to last long.

Picked her up today. Below is the best picture my crapola digital camera could do. Definitely does not do it justice. She is side-by-side with the GCNM (top).
A couple of things I did not really notice from the other pictures I have seen. Note how the hammer and grip safety are jeweled on the sides.
They have matching serial numbers except for the NMR for the GCMN and RCC for the commander. :appld:

Creighton,
That's beautiful! You gonna keep that one? :)Sure would be nice, but, alas, this one will be up for adoption. :( I just LOVE the Commanders! Interestingly, it even comes with a second set of grips...checkered double diamond to go with the dark polished burl. These last few offerings from Talo have certainly been first rate!

Yep - not listed, I called and although it was very hard to get through, eventually I got hold of Derek and he took care of it most professionally. It was not easy with the Obomination rush.
