Hello to All,
Just installed a new thumb safety in my pistol. Installed in about 30 seconds?!? Sure worried alot.... My question is that there is a movement of the trigger with the safety on. It is a small amount and it stops. If the safety is cycled off and on again, the movement returns. Any ideas/problems?? Thanks!

Thumb safeties normally require some fitting to the hammer, but they do not block the trigger in any way.
The grip safety blocks trigger movement unti ldisengaged.
The test for a thimb safety is to press the hammer further back after engaging the thumb safety and see if the thumb safety wil move furhter upwards into engagement. It should hit the slide at the exact same time it touches the hammer. Since there is tolerance betwen the slide, the safety, and the frame holes the safety is fitted to remove the stack up.

Hello brickeyee,
Appears I have a problem. At first, with the safety on, you could pull the trigger and it would move and cause internal part to move also. If you released the trigger and did it again it would not cause the movement. If you cycled the safety off and on, the trigger movement could be reproduced. All other functioning seemed normal. Now some combination of pulling the trigger and engaging the grip safety with the thumb safety on, caused the hammer to fall when it is moved to the off position. Can not yet reproduce it consistently but it has occurred several times.

I bet you that it happens when you press the trigger with the thumb safety on and the grip safety depressed. Press trigger, you can feel something moving, release thumb safety and the hammer drops to half-cock. The thumb safety is not blocking your sear as it should, thus allowing some movement. Since the safety is not allowing the sear to move any further, the hammer does not fall, but as soon as you release the safety the sear moves a little more and the hammer follows.
Depending on the safety, you may try and repair the safety by hitting it with a hammer, so that the edge which blocks the sear moves a little further out, or you need a new thumb safety.

Hello John,
You are correct mostly. By that I mean you have described the actions of the pistol when the muzzle is pointed down?!? Strangely to me, if the muzzle is pointed up the hammer does not drop. Thanks for the help. Will investigate.
Take care...

Further investigation reveals that the sear is moving with the new or the original safety in  Probably like that originally and I did not notice. The hammer sometimes drops to safety-ledge and sometimes not. Doing the test of cocking the hammer after pulling the trigger with the safety on, then releasing the safety produces a distinct click   .
Pulled the pistol apart and noted that with only the disconnect and sear in, slide off, holding both forward (in position), the paddles on the disconnect do NOT seem to go very far behind the sear onto the ledge. Will need MAJOR assistance/repair

Don't it hurt to go to the gunsmith? However, go humbly, and he'll fix the gun good. Amen.

This is one case of: If you want it done right, DON'T do it yourself! More investigation is compiling a list of areas of concern (ouches). Looks like checkering the frontstrap, metal MSH, new reverse spring plug and guide rod, refinishing and a stronger barrel bushing will have to wait till next time. Will probably get a good trigger clean-up while I'm spending money... Oh well
The man I have in mind will surely do a quality job!!!
