I currently have a Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail. It came with a smooth mainspring housing. I'd like to put a checkered mainspring housing in it, and I'm wondering if it's a drop-in, or gunsmith operation.
Thanks

Let me preface this by saying that I've never done what you're wanting to do, but I do know that DW CBOB's use Ed Brown bobtail housings, and Ed Brown sells checkered and snakesking bobtail housings, so I would hope that swapping one for another would be a drop in type installation. I do have a checkered one (Ed Brown) at home that I've been wanting to put on my CBOB, I've just been out in the woodshop too much to actually sit down and do it. At worst I would think a very minor fitting may be required.
Good luck!

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. After 18 years as a toolmaker, I should be able to "tweak it" if I need to. I'll get one, and let you know how things went.
Thanks, Jay
