View Full Version : Pics of your Ivory or similar grips

I want to start a thread of pics of 1911's with Ivory or similar grips. I am thinking about putting a set on my Nighthawk Custom T3 that is Diamond Black. I just love that combination. Would some of you be so kind as to post pics of your 1911's with those type of grips on them. It would be a great thead to look at and very helpful to me in making my decision.
Thanks
Gordon

Thanks, Gordon. I bought these a few years ago. They're from Spresser's Knife Works. He sells his grips on eBay.

I believe I read somewhere that eBay is shutting off ivory sales as of the first of the year. Is that accurate Frank?

I haven't heard that, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me. In any case, I'm pretty well fixed myself.
Another possible source is Elen Hunting (http://www.elenhunting.com/ ). They seem to have some nice ivory on their website. I've never done business with them, so I can't comment on that.

Available from Brownells or direct (they will do checkering and other features direct). Great folks either way.

Genuine ivory as certified after testing by a local art dealer in Dallas. The earliest I can positively date them is the mid 1950's. One is slightly cracked and I only put them on a pistol for special occasions. Mostly sleep in a humidity controlled safe.

Charles Spresser (the fellow how made my ivory grips) recommends a few drops of baby oil on the back of each panel a couple of times a year. I've read a similar recommendation in something John Taffin wrote. I've been doing that, but I haven't really had the grips long enough to notice whether it does anything.

Corian is a man made granite like material that is used mainly in the construction of kitchen and bathroom counter tops and vanity tops!! :) :)

Well,
I had actually taken the TruIvory off of my Blued Super .38 in favor of some nice wood, but this thread coupled with carrying some applejack double diamond checkered up against my skin prompted me to put them on my Commander.
So here they are...
Not real Ivory (also not priced like real ivory) but I do like them, and as I said they are great folks.

Esmeralda shows whatever she has available on her website. Her stock changes regularly depending on the wood available. What you need to do is check her site on a regular basis. If you see something you really like, it's a good idea t buy it right away. Some of the neatest stuff gets snapped up right away.
