I made the commitment to do a home build. I was thinking old school, pre-A1. Well as close as I can get. For cheap parts that puts me somewhere between Brownell and Ebay....LOL.

From Sarco I got a .45 Auto Builders Kit - All parts (Less Frame), this included one new manufactured G.I. type slide, which is unmarked with vertical rear cocking serrations, but has the scalloped ejector port. With the kit came a trigger which looks like a serrated commercial short model. The MSH, slide stop, grips, and grip safety is A1 but the thumb safety is short checkered WW1 style. Knowing the parts were De-milled, I ordered a Wide Spur Hammer and a set of Double Diamond Style Grip made from Walnut. The hammer is nice but the grips are less than good.

Thru my Gunsmith, I ordered a Parkerized Essex 1911 Auto Receiver from Brownell. I knew that it would have the trigger finger cut out but had no idea who made old style frames W/O them. Brownell does have Essex 1911 Auto Slide W/O scalloped ejector port but having the modern 60 degree forward angle on rear cocking serrations. So I will keep with the slide from Sarco due to the serrations and use the Essex Receiver due to economics (Price). Caspian Arms does make a pre-A1 frame, but I'll get that next time (or maybe a Foster).

Ebay has a very restricted policy about weapons. After the Virginia Tech shootings eBay prohibit the listing of "any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun." This prohibition included, according to eBay, "bullet tips, brass casings and shells, barrels, slides, cylinders, magazines, firing pins, trigger assemblies, etc." But you can still find some of these smaller parts on ebay. I was able to get a 45 Auto Smooth (Flat) Mainspring Housing W/Lanyard Loop and a 1911 Slide Stop W/Parkerized Finish, old original W/checkering.

This leaves me in search of a short tang grip safety and a long smooth trigger. Any Ideas?

Yeah, how would we shoot anything without "bullet tips"?
A long-tang safety can be easily recontoured to the earlier shape. I've done it two or three times. Other than that, you may be able to find an old grip safety at a gun show.
