I recently just picked up a new Para SSP. After shooting it, I realized I wanted to try some wrap around grips with the finger grooves. So I went out and got a set of Hogues. I actually kinda like the look of them as well as the nice wood ones. It compliments the gun by making the stainless parts really stand out.

What do you guys think ?

They look good. When I got mine. I was disappointed it didn't have the stainless barrel bushing and recoil plug like was shown in the orginal advertisements. Called Para and they said it was a Marketing mistake.

Oh well. I guess I will buy some eventually.

What kind of Mag you got in yours.

Thanks,

It a Lonestar Ordnance, I dont really care for it because it doesnt keep the slide open on the last shot. That is like a pet peive of mine when they do that.

I picked up my LDA SSP last week. I don't like the mags it came with. They seem cheep. I put some wrap around rubber grippers on it and it shoot's like
a million bucks with the wilson combat mags. I am going to order a wilson
follower and springs for the mags the pistol came with and rebuild them.
Para makes such a nice pistol, and then they suppy those cheepy mags.....
Anyway.... My para is replacing my colt as my primary home defense gun !

I bought my 1445 LDA for work. I live in Flroida and sweaty hands are an issue here. I removed the grip panels and wrapped deck tape all around the grip, front strap and main spring housing. I have had deck tape on my Glock for a couple of years now. It does shed for about a month. When it's time to change it out I remove the slide and peel off the deck tape off, then use WD-40 to remove the glue (it neutralizes the glue and makes it easy to wipe off). I like this type grip very much. If you try it tell me what you think.

I live in Florida too. But I don't use a gun for work. I know about the sweaty
hands thing. But, I don't know if I could spend so much money on a gun and then wrap deck tape around the handle. I buy my rubber grips of
gunbroker.com. That way they don't cost a lot. And the pistol looks good
with them ! You do have a interesting idea though. I will remember that if I ever need a quick fix for a poor grip.

I'll have to second Dan0 idea. I tried Pachmayr wrap-arounds for years, and I thought they were great. I tried some similar grips with finger grooves, but they didn't suite my hand well, I prefer my fingers tight together, and the grooves were not right for me.

The problem started when I first saw my baby with a set of lovely wooden grips. I was immediately sold to them.

Since I missed the feeling of rough texture on the front strap, (and I can't trust anyone locally to do a hand-checkering job on it) I located a yachting shop and bought some tape from there. This tape is made of a rubber material, so it is quite smooth on the inside, sticks well to the metal, does not shed at all, and is quite rough on the outside to provide a very secure grip. A piece of that tape is now on the front straps of both my pistols and I love it. I got about a meter of it, costed me something like 1 US$ and it's great. Plus I can use it with whatever wooden grips I like!!

I know what you mean by the lack of texture on the front strap. When I had
nothing there, my shots were off. I am experimenting with grips right now.
I have a pearce grip and a wrap around rubber grip with no finger grooves on the way. I will look for a roll of deck tape this week and try that on for size too. You guys have me thinking (That's dangerous) that I might be able to use that tape on things like the pistol grips on my AR-15's. I never really thought of that before. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Hey!

I use the step-tape on my LDA 14.45 pistol. the problem with the wide body frames is finding grips that will fit without making the grip area larger. I've also used the step-tape on my SA 1911-A1 Loaded and my CZ52 pistol. For me it fills the bill and is easy to replace.

I got a pair of cheap mags for my dan wesson after I got it. I tested them out for fit and to see if they held open the slide before I shot with them. Neither of them did. All I had to do was bend the follower tip up so that the follower hit the slide stop. Haven't had any problems with them since.

:( my shots are off with or without finger grooves, tape, smooth, semi textured, checkered, and so on. I'm blaming my poor shooting skills on the grip makers no matter what they did, it can't be my fault :p

Derek -

I know this is an old post, but if you are still around let me know which grips you did use on your Para 1911 SSP. Also is that a different magazine or did you just change the base plate?

Best regards . . .

Thanks for the info . . . just what I'm looking for.

I just picked up the SSP late Friday and put about 100 rounds thru it yesterday. One thing for sure, it seems to digest all types of ammo very nicely. I reload a lot and it even handles my .45 semi-wadcutters, which many semi-auto's won't do.

My 14-45 a little picky about the shape of the bullet, this one doesn't seem to mind.
