Hello again to everyone. I did a stupid thing and tried to replace the sights on my SA GI needless to say it did not go well the front sight went flying after about 5 rounds can someone help with how to prperly stake the front sight
Do you have the staking tool? If not, that would be a good place to start.

Whose brand front sight did you use? Springer's have a proprietary tenon-size (~.082) & you definitely need a staking tool. I've only staked a few front sights, but here's what I do:
Make sure the sight opening is clean & free of debris both top and bottom. Clean the opening and surrounding area w/ a solvent & apply a little red Loctite. Insert the sight & using an appropriate "bench-block" (you can make your own using a section of 2x4, some hardware & a couple pieces of aluminum stock -see pic below) secure the slide & secure the block in a vise. Then, basically, follow the instructions that came w/ the staking tool...you want to get as much of the tenon material "flattened" into the space provided. Needless to say, take your time & be paitent. When finished, you should only have to remove a very small amount of material to render the area flush w/ the inside of the slide.

use loctite, cut a shallow area for the peened metal to fill in, stake it w/ many small blows w/ hammer. Awesome new tool you made there! Gotta love that duct tape. Hillbilly ingenuity at it's best I am inspired.
