So I've been trying to make up my mind on a set of grips for my RIA Compact Tactical 1911. I currently have to original grips which are nice, but don't previde enough traction for my sweaty hands. I was wondering if I could get your opinions on a new set of grips. I was thinking of getting either the VZ Operators or the VZ Aliens. I see that they list the operators as being very aggresive and the aliens as being medium aggresive. I carry this weapon so while I want a good grip for my hands I don't want my shirt to stick to the grips. I'm also not sure whether I should get the G-10 material or the Micarta stuff. I'm interested to hear what other people's opinions are. Thanks a lot.

I have put VZ Diamondbacks in black paper on all my guns. Have never had an issue while concealed or snagging, hanging up, etc... with them and they give a VERY SOLID grip without tearing your hand apart.

I installed a pair of VZ 320 grips on my 1911. They were Green/Black Linen micarta. They are advertised by vzgrips as:

"The 320's are a stunning grip. Smooth in appearance, the bold layers of micarta
laminate are very pronounced. Minute mill marks are left unpolished which give these grips a 320 grit feel. A must feel to appreciate kind of grip. Perfect for all day carry."

I agree with everything they claimed with the exception of the 320 grit feel. These things were quite slick if you ask me. Especially with a little sweat and i was not happy with the slippery feel i had. Just my honest assessment.

Regardless, micarta is great stuff. I always opt for it on knives when possible.

I'm thinking about the green canvas aliens...anyone have any experience with these?

I own VZ Gatorbacks and Aliens. I think classifying the Aliens as medium-aggressive is a bit of a misnomer. The bite they have and purchase they provide is on par with pretty serious duty grips. I would shudder before wearing them up against my skin or a fine sports coat liner. I do love them as duty/field stocks though...

Whereas the Gatorbacks are more "medium" and I feel pretty ideal for conceal carry.

Below are the Aliens. Best of luck with your selection...it's hard to go wrong with VZs...

I ended up getting some opperaotrs. I really like them! They provide a great deal of grip when shooting(I ran through 150rnds on Wed) and started sweating in the hot FL sun after mear minutes. I was pleased to find that it was NOT neccessary to constantly re-adjust my grip. I wore the weapon at work today and found that my side was rubbed pretty good. I sanded them this evening and will wear it again tomorrow. I think the sanding will help alot

I'm using the paper micarta gator backs. Very easy on clothes and my flank. Grip is to my liking. They actually don't feel "rough" at all, but stay put rock solid with the vertical-fluted design.

I have the VZ 320's on my 1911. I agree with the above poster they are pretty slick but I still like the over all feel of them.

Well call me the oddball, I guess. I tried both Gatorbacks and 320s. Liked the looks but not near enough traction to suit me. Sold both sets.
