I had Ken Crawley do a bob-job and polished flats on my stainless model and picked it up this weekend and I just finished bobbing the Tru-Ivory grips about 30 minutes ago. They are not perfect but sure do feel nice. I am grinnin' about this one.....TW

A great carry piece just got better! The bobtail is one of the best things that ever happened to a 1911 as far as I'm concerned. Congratulations on a beautiful Commander!

Thanks AZ. I'll be heading over to Patagonia in a few months for some R&R. I love that area a bunch and most of your state also..........TW

Excellent!!!
What is the roll mark on the right hand side, front of the frame? Can you give us a closeup?
Congrats, and take care,
DD

I will try a close-up, dog. It's the name "Cheater" in script. I asked Ken if I could take liberties with his outstanding piece called the Cheetah on his website and he did not mind, and even chuckled when I mentioned it in April. So that's the story and I will attempt a shot tonight with the macro mode..........TW

MT ...Nice grips on your Kimber. Who made em?.....TWThey're buffalo horn grips made by a forum member Kimson Vu ( kimsonvu ) in Vietnam . I was lucky enough to get them from another member Jescorrea when his eight sets finally arrived . The photo doesn't do them justice .
I forgot to mention that the Kimber and Nighthawk pistols pictured are my wife's , there wasn't room for my Predator .

Awesome, TW! Your Cheater looks great with those ivory's on it. Wow! I thought it looked pretty cool before you put them on there. You should send Ken some pictures with the new grips on it. Nice job! :)

I don't care what Creighton says.........(just kidding) I think the TruIvory Bobbed grips look great at fraction of the price and you haven't castrated your original ivory.
You're making it tough on me 'cause you know I'm a 10mm freak & I want a Cheetah baaaaaad!
What in the world are you gonna do next?

I like it - very much. Personalized, but not over the top.
I never used Mr. Crawley for any work, but he seems to be a very solid gunsmith. How are his backlogs? Does he do repairs/tunes, barrel fits, etc.?
Thanks,
DD

DD...He does it all and does it very well also. A Cheetah can take 12-18 months. Over the last year he has done quite a few things to my Colts from Barsto's to refinishing. And it is a treat to go see him in Kemp near Cedar Creek lake. Backlogs.....Several weeks to several months, just depends on what. He has a board by the door in his workshop and once you get on the board, you're in, and you don't want to cancel any work or the old erasure comes out and off you go. Not a pretty sight..........TW

Very nice looking gun. You did a pretty decent job on reducing (bobbing) the grip as well.

Thank you Alcoy. I would agree with the term decent as I know I didn't do a great job. I am going to bevel the bottom some more to clean em up and even them out a little more.

Check out Jeffs home bobtail job on his new LW XSE at GUNBLAST.com. Makes for a nice piece. Love the finish too.
