I'm thinking of replacing the stock trigger on my defender with something else. I would like to be able to take the creep out and adjust for over travel. Any one have triggers they really like and would recommend? Anything special that I should know about different triggers?

Thinking Kings or Dlask. I am happy with the one that came on mine as I never looked at it as a paper punch.

A number of different make triggers will let you adjust over travel. I'm partial to Greider Precision triggers myself (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=20228&st=&s= ). But changing the trigger won't affect creep. That requires a trigger job involving the sear, hammer hooks and disconnecter and is another matter entirely.

What Frank said. Changing the trigger is more of a cosmetic issue than a functional issue. A new trigger may have no effect on your trigger pull, or it may even have a negative effect on it. But you do not replace the trigger hoping it will make your trigger pull lighter or with less creep.

Finally, every time you change a part in the firing mechanism of the 1911, make sure the pistol passes all safety checks afterwards.

Maybe creep isn't the right term to use. Maybe slack is more correct. There is a very noticeable amount of travel in the trigger before it feels like it engages anything. This is what I would like to reduce.

That initial free travel is usually called "take up." A certain amount is required in order for the gun to function properly and safely. The minimum take up can vary somewhat from gun to gun. Take up should generally be between 0.040" to 0.060".
