View Full Version : Refinishing HC'd Commander

I have a Stainless Baer Commanche that I bought preowned. This gun is great and I have not had any failures. I trust it completely.

The original owner stated that it had an idiot mark on it. Once I received it I noted that the mark is not an idiot mark, but, caused by the slidestop not being relieved and actually dragging on the frame.

I took it to my gunsmith and he confirmed that the inside of the ss had some "burrs" and was going to remove them, refinish that side of the frame as well as replace the front nite sight as it is dead.

After he was looking at it a little longer he noted that the gun was hardchromed. The scratches/wear from the ss are through the HC. The slide is in great shape. I do not know who HC'd the gun, I don't think LB did the work because it wasnt indicated on the build sheet from LB.

When I get the frame HC'd again to remove the blemish, do you think that the slide will match? I am assuming that I should get both done at the same time to eliminate any issues with different colors.

I know the "appearance" has nothing to do with the functionality of the weapon, I just want to be the one who puts the marks on it.

Thanks for reading my long post. I appreciate your help.
