I did not see an area for this and did a short search and did not find a similar question.
I am planning on having a 1911 built within the next few months and would like opinions on what manufactures parts that you recommend I should use for the build and if you don't mind also why you recommend these parts. Thank you.

First some basic questions..........what will the gun be used for?
Carry, duty use, range, gaming?

I use almost exclusively Ed Brown parts for everything I build. But lately I have branched out to EGW, they are a local shop and have some really high quality parts. Between those two you should find anything you want for an "all purpose" 1911.

Right now I am leaning towards carry but it will be at least 2 to 3 months if not more before I get the receiver and slide so I may change towards competition. What I am looking for is what makers of parts do you feel are of the highest and most durable quality for a 1911 build. Also would your suggestions be different if on a commander sized frame instead of a Govt. frame. Thank you for your help.

With a few variations here and there, I like Hilton Yam's suggestions for serious duty/defense:
