View Full Version : Colt Defender Problems

History:
I bought the gun used and it ran flawlessly for several hundred rounds. It started stovepiping the last round in my Wilson OCX's so I replaced the mag springs with Wolff's. At this time I decided to replace the recoil springs with Wolff's since I didn't know the round count on them.

Problems:
The Wolff springs were too large OD, causing them to bind in the barrel bushing. I replaced the Wolff's with the original recoil spring. I also put in a new guide rod/captured spring assembly. Since then, I've broken the plate on the end of the capture spring assembly twice. Each time, the slide would lock up after 2-3 rounds. When I forced the slide open, the pieces of the plate fell out.

Any ideas?

Was the replacement spring assembly Colt?

I wish that you could have joined under better circumstances! However, I will echo spongebob's question. Was the replacement new guide rod/captured spring assembly, Colt ? And it also sounds as if you are still utilizing the old spring.

BTW: Defenders, have two springs (outer and inner) in their recoil spring assembly. Call Colt: 1-800-962-2658

Best of Luck!

He did last check in 4 days later, however no one responded to his blight until today! I suggest waiting to see if he responds to the e-mail notification I sent him.

Holy Batman! I forgot about this thread...I'm on too many forums. Now to address the questions/comments:

1) The spring assemblies were Colt from Specialized Armament Warehouse.
2) I did re-use the outer recoil spring when the Wolff spring failed to work.
3) I will only use Colt springs from now on.

Funny I should get a reply this week. I just got my Defender back from Colt on Wednesday. They worked on it and said it functions fine now. I didn't get a clear answer over the phone as to what the issue was and the documentation on the order is vague. Since they took care of it gratis I'm not complaining. They also repaired my feed ramp. I'm hoping to try it out this weekend.

Double check each time you strip then reassemble your slide that the outer spring is installed correctly. If you put it in backwards, you are going to have another very bad day.

Thanks. I found that out when I first got it. Luckily I caught it during a function check.

Thanks for the replies guys!
