I have a 1911PD with Ambi Safety and am having difficulty finding a laser site for the pistol. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Did you try Crimson Trace?

what about the laser guide rods- i've never heard any thing about them so i don't really know- but that is an option- plus they look pretty cool to boot

I finally got in contact with Lasermax. They told me they do not make a laser site for the pistol and have no plans to do so. Looks like grip lasers are not going to happen. I don't know much about rod lasers either. Anybody have any advice on rod lasers?

I have Crimson Trace on two of my Commander sized 1911's and they work very well. They are completely adjustable for windage and elevation so you can get the dot and the point of impact to the same place easily.
This is from the Crimson Trace Lasergrip website:
"Will Lasergrips fit my 1911 pistol that has an ambidextrous safety?
A standard right-side safety lever will interfere with the laser diode housing. You will need to remove your factory right-hand paddle and shorten it slightly to clear. Your local gunsmith can do this quickly and inexpensively.
Crimson Trace sells pre-modified Wilson Combat safeties that have the slim “tactical” lever on the left side and a shorter (but wider) paddle on the right side. Like all aftermarket safeties, these will need to be fitted by a gunsmith."

Hope this helps - TS
