I just got a Kimber conversion after waiting 9 months for it (For it to get to Australia) and the dam magazine will not fit. It is held together with a wide plastic base plate, and all my 1911's have mag funnels. I then e-mailed Dennis at Kimber he told me to " Put the mag in the gun & see where it hits the magwell. Just remove enough material to insert it in the gun. It is a polymer so it will take very little effort to remove material. Dennis"
First of all i shouldn't have to do any such thing. Secondly if I remove enough material for it to fit the base of the magazine will not hold together.
I am extremely disappointed especially since the gun i want to put it on is A Kimber with a 'factory' mag well.
Has anybody else had this problem??
I'll post Kimbers correspondence when they actually answer me last e-mail.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. No you shouldnt have to do any mods, and they should have stated that the conversion kit may not work with "modified" pistols with exteneded mag wells and such.
Fortunately all of my pistols w/converion kits dont have any of the exteneded mag wells and i dont have any problems with them or the mags.
If youre not happy with it, im sure you can sell it to someone w/a plain janel 1911 style.

bangbang- It's worse than that. The gun is 'Factory' as it came from Kimber (Tactical Custom II)with a factory mag funnel. Still have not had a reply to my last e-mail, 3 days now. Has there been any public holidays in NY??
I also work in a gun shop here and we got 2 other kits in stock. Since 95% of our 1911 customers are competition shooters with mag funnels on their guns we might be returning these conversion kits. I still cannot believe the stupidity of making the mag this way. I cannot think what it achieves. the rest of the kit is very well made.

I believe all of the Kimber's come with removable Mag wells (mine does) so why not just remove it to shoot the 22?

If it was only that simple.
First the grips need to be removed( so you can access the the mainspring housing pin). Then remove the pin, slide the main spring housing down about 1/2 inch remove the allen screw in the mag funnell and slide the funnell forward off the main spring housing. then put the rest of it back together, swap the top end then i can shoot.
what a waist of time.
I have (since my last post) taken to the magazine with my dremmel tool and removed enough for it to lock in. it does work but it's very dodgey and the magazine will certainly have lost some strength. :(
