Never seen of this one before.Happened twice today.Always happened to the second to last round with the last round still in the mag. The round would feed in the chamber but it would be in front of the extractor? In other words the live round is in the chamber but it was never grabbed by the extractor. The slide was closed but not in battery. Anyone know the cause of this? It was with a Wilson 47d mag.

What recoil spring are you using? How good are your magazines (new? old?)

new 16# recoil spring with maybe 400-500 rds through it. It happened wit a wilson 47d mag but i didnt get a chance to try the two stock ones. The wilson mag is suppose to be new i got at a random gunshop so who knows.Ive only shot maybe 100+ rounds through that mag.

New mag doesn't mean good mag. What pistol is this? Try using a GI lips or hybrid lips mag. Oh, is there a shock buff in the gun?

Sorry it's a Springfield loaded parkerized. The only other two mags ive tried are the ones that come with the gun. Like i said i didnt get to try them they have worked fine though. So i take it's a mag problem then?Would a new mag spring work or is it a bad mag? No shock buff on the gun.

Hi Rumbuffalo, welcome to the forum! I think it may be better to try out your two stock mags first before changing anything on the wilson magazine. You can always have a friend try out the magazine to see if he/she has any problem with it. Sounds like it is a magazine problem though.
Also, you may want to go to the Part Bin section of the forum, and click on magazines. (http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=53) The stickies are very helpful and kind of explain what John was talking about (hybrid/GI feedlips for the magazine).
Good luck!

Thats a common problem with the Wilson 47D. I had the same trouble with my 2 Wilsons. I installed a Tripp Research Tripp Kit to convert the 8 round Wilsons to 7 round mags with stronger springs. One of the Wilsons is running fine now but the other one is still giving me problems.
Good luck

Not too uncommon actually. A body at rest tends to stay at rest, the cartridge pops up as the slide is coming back with very little holding it in the mag which jerks right out from under it leaving it no choice but to chamber without an invitation, what's even better is when it's not the last round and the rail strips a second and trys too push it in also, gets a little crowded. A weak mag spring is an obvious cause, a lubricated mag will do this, clean is good but no lube in the mag, spread feed lips, and no dimple on the follower as this is the reason for it on the last round.
