I just got home with my new XSE Combat Elite and it's gorgeous. The slide and frame fit are near perfect. The pistols overall quality is unbelievable. The fit and finish is some of the best I have seen. I have been wanting a 1911 for a few years and have been extremely disappointed in the quality of all 1911's. It seemed the only way to get the quality was to spend thousands. I was excited to here about the re-introduction of the combat elite. I have read some great reviews and was excited to here Colt was coming out with a affordable quality pistol that needed no reworking. I was able to track one down in Texas and have it shipped up to CT (20 miles from Colt) to my local dealer. I can't wait to take it to the range tomorrow and put some rounds through it.

Congrats on your new Elite. It looks like yours has a little better TS than mine does. Best of luck with it.

I looked at your pictures and could not make out much of a diffrence in the Thumb Safety. Is that what you are refering to? Thanks

Yours has been properly beveled on it's edges. If you look at the pics you will see what I am talking about. Mine is not very comfortable. :o How is your fitting on your beavertail? Do the frame lines match the beavertail lines? It should be one fluid line from the frame to the GS.

Nice looking Colt, I believe they did a good job on this one.

After looking at the pics yours has a different TS altogether. Yours looks much better. Mine was a very early gun and it would not surprise me that they changed them as production continued.

It looks total custom. The shop owner thought I sent the pistol out to a custom shop and was shocked to here it came from Colt.

That one is either a Wilson or an excellent copy of one from the pictures...they used them on the Gunsites...

Nice pistol compassman!

Hopefully the delta will have the same upgrades!

Whats the difference between the Combat Elite and the regular XSE?

Smith & Alexander upswept beavertail grip safety (changes the frame), Colt single side tactical safety, National Match Barrel and Novak sights. The slide is carbon steel and the frame is stainless steel. Colts new rose wood grips and Combat Elite on the side of the slide. Feel free to add and other info.

Sweetness....
I love the beavertail fit... that is the way they should all look... why can't colt put that beavertail on all of their guns which they equip with a beavertail.... the flgr thing I understand and I can get rid of and that's cool but I hate their funky beavertail they usually put on the gun...

Whats the difference between the Combat Elite and the regular XSE?

Reg XSE - either all blued or all SS, ambi safety, ducktail grip safety, plain cocobolo grip panels, right side of the slide is Government Model.

Combat Elite XSE - blued slide, SS frame, single thumb safety, Smith and Alexander upswept beavertail grip safety, grip panels has Colt in it, right side of the slide is Combat Elite

I've been lookin at gunbroker and gunsamerica drooling over it and here you are now showing yours. That's a gorgeous Colt pistol, in my opinion. CONGRATULATIONS. I'm also from CT about 15 miles from the Colt factory. I've gotten in touch with my local dealer to find me what you have. They have not contacted me yet. Otherwise, I have to get it online.

They're real good looker's, that's for sure. There are a few around here in Texas. I definitely like the looks better than the standard XSE.

Someone should tell some of the sellers of the older Combat Elites, that you can buy new for @ $900, it appears, and they won't be able to sell "older" ones for up to $1500. ;)

New ones are probably better built I'd bet!

Colt's quality right now appears to be the best it has been in many years, I'd go along with you on that.

Does the Combat Elite XSE come in a Commander size? I'm thinking since I allready have a couple of full sized 1911's. I need to add a Commander sized to my inventory. That is one sweet looking pony! Like it's allready been mentioned, The Colt site doesn't show some of these models.

No. But no one, including Colt knows what they'll do tomorrow.

I picked up my new XSE Combat Elite from my dealer this noon time. I don't know what it is but the Combat Elite feels so good in my hand. The SA upswept b'tail feels so good as well. The TS feels okay too.

To add to my previous post the slide to frame fit is excellent, the quality of work is excellent, exceeds my expectation. A very nice pistol to own. The old Combat Elites might lose their up there values or how they're being priced to sell with the arrival of the new XSE Combat Elite.

Hi, everybody. I'm new to the forum and very interested in the Combat Elite. Those are some nice pictures! I noticed on the slide, though, it says Government Model with the Combat Elite logo on the opposite side. What seperates the CE from the GM? On the outside it looks awfully close to the XSE Government Model. --B--

The Combat Elite that just came out is the latest release of an XSE. The only difference is the grip panels, single side thumb safety, SA upswept grip safety and the blue slide mated with a SS frame finish.

The barrel is also a national match and the barrel bushing is hand fitted. I am not sure what sights are comming on the XSE at this time but the Combat Elite has Novak front and rear sights.

Hi Compassman, could you please confirm that the dovetailed front sights is a real Novak made (easy to see the roll pin)?

Thanks for your help,

Javi

I went to the shooting range yesterday and shot 200 rds of 230 fmj without any failures. I was aiming dead center at 30 ft and was shooting at 10 o'clock. Then it got worse only to find out the rear sight came loose. I left the range and drove to Colt. They told me I have to leave the pistol but I said no I'm waiting. So they did fix the rear sight and looks like they replaced it. I also complained about the grips that chipped in 2 places. Colt replaced the grips with a much better reddish grain. They gave me back the old grips. I'd still say Colt delivers excellent customer service. I also dropped off my Colt Combat Commander to be refinished.

Am I the only one who owns an XSE Combat Elite with the rear sight problem? An acquaintance of mine had a blued XSE and the front sight came loose. He had to drop it off and wait 30 days.

I don't know about your gun but the 2 Colt Gunsite's I bought had a Novak rear sight and the set screw in both was loose.

I think Colt ships them with loose set screws. I purchased and XSE and Combate Elite this year and snugged the set screws before firing. Windage on both were spot on. YMMV.

Yup that's what it was, loose set screw in the Novak's rear sight. My other 2 SS XSE full size and LW Commander rear sights were fine, so far.
