I have a deal on a 357 Sig upper for a 1911, and the barrel is ramped to, I believe, Clark/Para specs even though it says "Nowlin" on top. I have a 1960 vintage Sistema frame that I'm willing to risk for my education. I do not have a mill, and no access to one since I wasn't able to afford college class this semester.

I'm willing to invest in more files if necessary, but what to get? Is there a different hand tool to use for this? Are there issues to watch out for?

Pointers to existing web-pages you consider trustworty are great!

Here's a link to the Nowlin-Wilson dimensions and there are links in the thread to the Brownell's article and others. There are further threads in the Enos 'smithing forum on the Clark-Para cut. This is a milling job.

The Wilson/Nowlin frame cut is different from the Clark/Para cut, and I would be very surprised if a Nowlin barrel has a Clark/Para cut. Anything is possible, I suppose, but I have never seen any indication that Nowlin makes barrels with the Clark/Para cut.

Brownells sells special cutters for the frame cuts. It has to be very precise. I doubt you could do it with hand files, and even if you could get to where you need to get, I'm 99.98% certain you can't be precise enough. If you want it done, you'd better pay someone rather than ruin a frame.
