Hello everyone in 45 land!
Might as well make my first post a good one :)

I've owned/shot 45's since forever :bf:
I have a bit of an enigma that no local guru or myself can figure out.
It is mk'd on right side of slide: "COLT BLACK STALLION" w/small prancing horse logo.
The left side of slide is mk'd: "COLT black .45
stallion"
w/slightly larger prancing stallion logo.

Ser# cbs218

Whats odd is it has a detoncs/sts size frame to take those mags.

Also has a special titanium spring "plug" to fill the3/16th's gap from slide to frame dust shield.

Now here is the caveat: w/no pics :fp:

It is what it is(to my chagrin.)
All the lettering on the slide are hand cut like matching the colt factory "roll stamp fonts perfectly": except the prancing ponies?

I've so far found a "combat stallion"(officer size) from a Ohio distributor....and a "Silver Stallion" mentioned without a source/frame size(assume stainless steel).

Thats as close as I can get.

I do have "guru guesses" of a one in five sample from various heralded shops as "submittal" samples to colt....but that is a loooooooong step :butthead:

Your input is appreciated on this forum.

Colt is not the best for info for "one of/or distributor limiteds " unfortunantly

I wonder if someone crafted it in their shop and it has nothing to do with Colt except engraving copying the roll stamp. Does it really have a Detonics frame, as even Officer sized mags will stick out of the bottom of a Detonics. That would tell me that it is someones project. The other thiing that makes me wonder this is the use of the titaniium.

Pics would really help. Isn't that pistol the same size as a Mustang? I think they also did a "White" Stallion cant remember if it was a Horton pistol or not. Should look kinda like this if it is what I am thinking of. The .45 has me confused......

It is a colt for sure, unless someone is able to copy ALL thier patent marks/address etc.
The colt mk'd frame is detonics size and officer mags do stick out. Also a detonics length dust shield hense the long titanium "spring plug" to fill that gap from the gov'mt length slide. Also has a longer than detonics "commander length" mainspring housing.

I had hope that someone had recognized the name "black stallion" before.
Will probably have to let this post rest till i'm able to get some pics up to see.

A factory would never allow a frame with a short dust cover go out its doors. Nor will they use a mismatched main spring housing. I've also never heard of a "Black Stallion" without this being a significant thing.
