wondering if anyone had any input on a armscor 1911 in 38 super? I found one on gunbroker that I fell in love with. so I put my ffl guy on a hunt for one. to see if he can find one cheaper. the one I found is hard chrome with pearl grips. is this a factory option? do they take standard 38 super mags from say a colt or such.

I have the parkarized(sp) one they are a great gun run 200 rouns though mine 2 ftf's both on first mad reloaded and shot them both out of same mag with no problem ..

The chrome is a factory option not sure on grips ... yes they will take a colt 38 super mag but just get the chip mccormick mags for the price...

Mine is super super accurate it surprized the heck out of me

They don’t sell armscor in super .38 here. My friend had his armscor in 9mm but then I converted it into a super .38. The gun did not shot well at first. FTF all the way. He had a smith to tweak it a little the it work fine. I’ll get his report this coming weekend.

Would you be kind enough to post a brief summary of what was involved in the conversion? Dod you just change the barrel, or were other parts changed to go along with the caliber conversion (springs, etc.)?

Interestingly enough, the factory recoil spring weight specified is the same for both the Super & 9mm (14-lb. in Govt. & 16-lb. for the Cmdr.). Odd since std. .38 Super stuff is equivalent to +P+ 9mm loads.

The extractor, slide stop, & ejector are also the same part. The mag's are different, but I seen Super mags run 9mm successfully, just not for me  . In other words, a barrel could well be all that's needed.

Hi All, I have a parkerized model, I had two FTF's in the First mag, just like tc300mag1 stated earlier, after that almost 1000 rounds later, not failures of any kind!!!! I've shot PMC, WIN, Corbon, And a friends reloads. Mine is very accurate with all the ammo I've shot. I had a friend install a drop in wilson Beavertail along with wilson hammer, and extended safety. now all that is left is the sights. I am very pleased with it.I second the vote for the Chip McCormick mags, I have three they all work perfectly.

Rock Island made the hard chrome 1911 in 38 Super. I have one and it's a nice gun. Uses standard 38 Super mags.

Way back in the early 1960’s I was a USAF navigator stationed in Charleston, SC. I did not trust the government to provide me with a weapon when I needed one so I bought a nice used Colt .38 Super, lightweight commander for $50. Many of the parts interchanged with the GI .45 plus it held an extra round and the .38 Super had more punch than the 9 MM Luger. Since the potential for use was world-wide and 9 MM was the most common round to be found outside of the US I wondered if it would fire them in a survival situation where 9 MM was the only ammo to be had. I did not fire many but that Colt fired them just fine. The extractor held the 9 MMs in position. I emphatically do not recommend the practice. Firing 9 MM would have been employed only if someone were shooting at me and all my .38 Super ammo was expended and 9 MM was all there was available. The Colt 38 Supers at the time headspaced on the rim and were known to be inaccurate compared to other cartridges. Apparently, the Armscor and Rock Island pistols headspace on the case mouth which makes for greatly improved accuracy. I emailed Armscor some time ago and among other questions asked whether their .38 Super headspaced on the rim or the case mouth. That question was never answered. I don’t believe he knew. Anyhow, if the Armscor and Rock Island in .38 Super shoot as well as my Charles Daly in .45, and it sounds as if they do, you have a real bargain. I have been demurring on buying one since I could not get an answer to the accuracy question. Now I do thanks to you folks.

I been looking at one of the RIA polished chrome 38 super. Really a beautiful pistol. Compare the price of it to the Springfield 38 Super in nickel.

The Rock Island sells for about $400 while the Springfield sells for almost a thousand. Fit and finish will be better on the Springfield. BUT.....Six Hundred Dollars will buy an awful lot of ammo. ;)

Is there THAT much differance in the fit and finish. I think not. The fit and finish on the two 4" RIA that I have is fine. The crome 5" 38.super I looked at sure was nice.
