Hi,
I was thinking of buying a Colt Commander 38 Super. However I have read that since Colt fell on hard times that their workmanship left something to be desired. Does anyone have experiance with newer Colts? Better yet Colt 38 Supers? My other choice is a Para LDA in 9mm. Thanks in advance!

Where ever you read that it is rubbish.

I have a Super 38 XSE ltw Commander and it is a fine pistol. As are my two other Super 38 Colts.

If possible lookover the pistol prior to accepting it. Sometimes lemons do slip through. Good luck.

Sorry to tell you that Colt is not making a "good" 1911....... They are making a GREAT 1911. I own many newer production Colt's and they have all been problem free. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a current production Colt. Here is a pic of 2 SCG's in 38 Super.

This rumor is as old as dirt ;). Colt is still making the very finest production pistols on
the world. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another (dozen!) or recommend them to anyone!

I have to agree with my fellow members. Colt's are the #1 production 1911's made, yesteryear or today!

The new Colt's are usually well made and work as expected.

Yes. I just bought a 1991A1 .45 SS commander last week. Brand new. Two hundred rounds of ball, hollowpoints later, it has not had one problem. Shoots accurately at combat distance. Buy one and enjoy!

I just completed what was for me a rather detailed and hands on selection process of 1911's. I chose the Series 70 repro (currently 3 weeks out on lay a way, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon :) ).

Seriously, did a LOT of range rentals of Para Ord, Kimber, Springfield (that TRP was a close call). Auto Ordnance, and an STI as well.

Again, I chose the Series 70 repro as THE best value offered. The fit and finish on "mine" were, imo, above the others and well, hey , it's a Colt to boot.

It's going to get some "retro'd" parts soon after acquisition to have it just the way I want it but forget the whooha spouted about Colt and current quality.

It's dead on imo. Buy with confidence. I did and will again.

The current Colt pistols are excellent quality, of the several I have there have been no issues.
I say go for it.

I recently got a WW1 repo and it's a fantastic pistol. As nice as anything I own.

I have in the last year bought an XSE Commander and and XSE LW Commander. Great pistols, beautifully made and they work. For what it's worth, I also have a couple of Para LDAs and they have been excellent too. Heck, buy 'em all!

I'll bet that rumour has been around since they started making that new fangled "Peacemaker." It'll never be as good as the Walker. :p

OLD COLTS vs. NEW COLTS

I bought my first Colt a few weeks ago; a 30-year-old mint condition Combat Commander caliber 9mm (left in photo). It is a great shooter. Before I left the range dealership that day I was so impressed with Colt that I bought a brand new Colt Model 1991A1 Commander caliber .45 ACP. It turned out to be such a good shooter that I immediately promoted it to my carry gun and rewarded it with a set of ivory (the real deal) grips from Nutmeg Sports LLC. I now have my eye on a Colt Gold Cup. I guess this means I'm on the fast track to becoming a true Colt snob.

Sounds like you've taken the Colt fork in the road and now there's no turning back.
Enjoy the trip!

Don't forget to look at the O1918, I bet it's a sweetheart of a pistol. I have a SCG and they're worth a look, but they are rather expensive now. But it's a great shooter as long as my reloads stay away from it. :o With factory ammo it never misses a beat. My skillz at reloading are suspect to say the least.

You bought ivories from Nutmeg? Those are very expensive, but they sure look good! I'd like a pair of those....Maybe one day!
