First post here. (This may be a long post; I have a bunch of pent up 1911 energy to work out!) I figured I'd start right off in the Colt Forum since I have recently started researching for my next 1911 and it will be a Pony!

Been in LE for 15 years and have always had to carry the requisite tupperware in 40SW. Now that I'm taking a step back from all that to further my studies, I have freedom to carry what I want.

I've always owned at least one 1911, and even had a Colt in the early 90's but it was a problem child so I got rid of it. Sharp edges and some other issues scared me away for a while.

Well, the Centennial is coming up and I don't want to usher in 2011 without having a Colt. From what I'm seeing of the current production guns, it looks like a good time to buy. (That and the uncertain political future to be decided upon shortly.)

Have been going back and forth between the 1991 NRM and the Series 70. I'm thinking the latter, since the short trigger and arched MSH always appealed to me. I do wish they'd do another run of the WWII guns, as that would be a no-brainer.

Looks like a great forum. I belong to many, all under the same username.

sgtlmj, welcome to the forum! :wc:

They Series 70 are good, so is the 1991 as are the O1918. Whatever you decide you should be happy.

Welcome to the forum. The series 70 repro is a great pistol that I think will serve you well. Here is a pic of the reissue in SS and blued. Best of luck in your search.

Welcome to the forum sgtlmj! Good to have you on board.

I like a short trigger and arched MSH as well...and think the S70 Repro is a great choice (though the NRM is an excellent model as well, which you could always add the two components to without "alteration").

Keep us posted!

The guys have provided advice that I agree with! I would go with the series 70, as it appears to suit your interests best.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the M1911.ORG Forum, sgtlmj!

As my forum friends elijdub, d90king, and daveohno have already pointed out, the current production Series 70 models from Colt have been some outstanding pistols. Like d90king, I own both the blued and stainless steel versions, and I'm quite proud of both.

I think I can speak for the others in highly recommending this model for your purchase of a new 5" Government Model.

Once again, welcome to the forum. We're mighty glad to have you.

(oops! Sorry for not including you, Rich-D! You're typing faster than me this morning!!!!!!) ;)

Steve, I was a bit disappointed, until I got to your last sentence. :)

Thanks,

I just remembered... One of the reasons I got rid of that Colt was that it had the "enhanced" package, and I was looking for the more traditional look of the Series 70. The shop only had the one 1911 when I was shopping that day or something.

Anyway, a re-issue Series 70 it is, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 1969 Commercial as well. I'd like to have one from my birth year.

Welcome to the forum. Good advice so far, but what else would you expect in the Colt forum? :D

Sir,
First things first - welcome to the m1911.org family. You are most welcome here and I am quite sure you will enjoy the site and all of the colorful characters.
Next, as the owner of a few Colts and some other 1911's, I would agree that the new Colts I am seeing are of very good quality. I also really like the new rollmarks. I would recommend a new Colt to anyone, with any size budget, with no reservations whatsoever.
Good luck and let us know where gun the muses ultimately lead you...
DD

EDIT: By the way, like you, I never could fall in love with the "enhanced" models, either - and for the same reasons.

Welcome to the forum, I believe either Colt would serve you well. I like the 1991s myself but when I tell folks one of my favorite Colts are the old 1991A1s I get funny looks.

Are you sure they're not just looking at you? ;)

I'm not sure which of my Colt's is my favorite, they all have a special place in my heart, I'm sure Hunter feels the same way about all of his Colt's.

Someone who should know, informed me you had "funny looks" before you ever owned a Colt. :eb:
