Hello to all...just bought my very first 1911 pistol... a Colt LWT Commander. I really like the feel and fit of this pistol. It also shoots great, and it's very very accurate. This pistol was at my local gun shop in the used section for $695.00 and bought it for $500.00 otd. The gun needs some refinish love and a couple of after market parts that want to get. Here are some pics. It looks like the guy who had it before me put on some type of spray and bake finish on it.

This is what it looks like stripped from that awful finish..ready to ship out.

Thank you. I am going to send it to John Harrison for some custom work and get the frame re-anodized and the slide with the Black-T finish.

Very nice Colt. I can't believe somebody would use a paint on finish on such a nice pistol. :scared: :butthead: You will be very happy working with John H he is a great guy. He also can have the IonBond finish done which also looks great for a carry pistol. Have him do his reliability package to it. It is money well spent.

Nice pistol, and it sounds like it is going to the right person. Question, though, how did you get the finish off?

Thanks,

Craig

I got it off with a product called (Klean Stripp) safe for all metals. The funny thing is after only few seconds of dipping the slide and frame you could literally remove the finish with your finger tip. I can't belive anyone use such a God awful finish on a Colt.. or even a BB gun for that matter. At least it's going to get some major love from a great gunsmith.

Is it my monitor or was the frame color the same "Titanium Blue" paint color used on the "Lady Hawk" pistol recently reviewed?

Where is the Commander grip safety?! Who on earth put that ugly beavertail on that beauty?!?!?

Congrats, very nice looking Commander.
