Just won this auction. What do you gouys and gals think?? Have plans to refinish it and make it a project gun- or do you all advice against it?

Looks to me like you may have found a fairly good project piece. previous owner appears to have used some decent parts and maybe you can incorporate them into your finished piece. I like it.

I like it.

Doesn't appear to have any pitted/rusted places and the Brown beavertail install looks like it left enough steel that you could reshape the frame tangs to a close approximation of original - or not - the beavertail install looks good enough that if that's the style of gun you have in mind you won't have to do anything. The various parts that were added can be changed out or not.

I think you've got the basis for any type of pistol you prefer.

Sound like what I like to call a "victomless crime" .
just my 2 cents.

Great, thanks for the input. I was thinking, go for a RIA and build into a custom bells and whistles thingee gun. Then I saw a thread where someone tried to checker the frame and it ended going south after that. NOT KNOCKING RIA, I have five of them and love each one as much as any other 1911. I just think its time to try my hand and wallet at a personal pride and joy piece.

Thanks for all the input, as always you all will be the first to know how it goes.

Since you asked, this is, imo, a no lose deal for you. At $390.00 you have the base for making anything you desire.'

How come I never find deals like this? Bummer :).

Just wondering - did you verify it is a Colt frame?
