This is the Colt Combat Commander I was trying to figure what to do with. I replaced the Pachmayr grips with "period" Colt grips and am going to keep it in original condition.

Original is the best.
Sharp looking Commander.

Nice. It would be interesting to call Colt and find out when it was made.

Very nice Commander. I think it's perfect "as is"!
It appears to be an early Series 80 (1984ish) model, as it maintains the pre-Series 80, short-tang, grip-safety....assuming those are original components.
I have it's twin :)

I don't know when it was made. It is a caliber 9mm with a non-ramped barrel. The Serial No. is 70 (Beta Sigma) 42xxx. I haven't contacted Colt to find out when it was built. I understand a Colt letter of documentation costs $100.00. If I keep the gun, I'll probably invest in such a letter.

...And a 9mm taboot!
Guess i was a little off about it's age in my earlier post :o ; i misread the SN.
SN "B(eta)S(igma)42xxx" was made in 1976.
FYI, Colt is very helpful in providing info about the gun and only charges the $100 if you actually want the letter. :o

I strongly recommend you ship it to me for a thorough inspection and testing. It may take awhile, but I will give you my recommendations after this extensive perusal. :D

Congrats on a nice Commander. I think you will find that to be a ideal carry gun. I wouldn't change a thing as it looks perfect the way it is.

Keep that beautiful Commander as it is. It's a real beauty to say the least. I like the short triggers on Commanders and the arched MSH looks great as well. I was never a big fan of the arched ones before but since adding a 1943 GI issue to my collection I have come to like the feel and the look - not that the original JMB design isn't easy on the eyes or comfortable to shoot, either. Well done!

Not having one of these or being able to make any sense of the above posts about the serial number, are you saying the serial number is 70(B)(S)42xxx?
BTW, I found out why you can't simply post it here the way it really is - stupid censoring of non-curse words.

Yes. That is what the SN is.
What can't you make sense of?
