I have just got my colt back from Bain and Davis gunsmiths and had the feedramp polished and the barrel throated. Does anyone esle have this done and can I now feed hollow points through it like I am being told I can or is there something esle that needs to be done. Any advise would be helpful.
Thanks

Mine too. No problem with hollowpoints in a stock Colt.
May I ask what was the problem that caused you to send it off to have the work done? What model Colt is it?

Series 80 I had taken it out and started to go through a box of gold dot and it was cycling very rough. I read about polishing the feedramp and throating the barrel. I have not gone to the range yet but was wondering if I had even done the right thing or was it just a waste of money. All the high end guns I read about have it done aswell which gave me that extra boost to just have it done.

:fp: We need photos of your gun's throat and feedramp.
Was the problem you experienced, the "cycling very rough" your only reason for sending your pistol to Bain and Davis gunsmiths?
Is the feedramp polish and barrel throated all that's on your invoice?
Do you mind telling us what you were charged for this service?

Thats all I have done to it and it cost about 55 bucks and it took a couple of days they have also done my beavertail, trigger, and hammer. They seem to be good at what they do, I was going to go to kings customs but they keep telling me they are busy and to check back with them in 2-3 months and when I do they give me the same line. Out here I hear Kings is one of the best but you would think they would at least give me a date and keep it.

A properly built Colt should feed JHP's without problem. Personally, if i purchased a Colt that did not feed correctly i'd send it back to the factory for warranty work. I'm not familiar with "Bain and Davis" but if they're competent gunsmiths i'd suspect they completed the work correctly (based on their interpretation of the problem). I'm curious to know more about what exactly was happening during feeding that was "rough".
FWIW, i've never owned a 1911 that wouldn't feed all ammo i fed it.

When I first got the gun it got jamed with just ball ammo about 3 times. It did the same with hollow points, since I had the work done to the barrel and feedramp it has not jamed with the ball ammo but I have not yet tryed hollow point yet.

That's good news. I wish you could open the action of the gun and take some closeups of the barrel/feed ramp. I am curious as to what it look like after they throated and polished it. Any possibility of some pics?

As soon as the wife comes home and tells me were the camera is I will post pics, and hopefully some of you can let me know if they did a good job or not, this is my first 1911 and I have no clue if the job they did is good or if they just took me for a ride.

When Colt put the 'notch' or whatever it's correctly called into the barrel's ramp they pretty well did away with most of the common hollowpoint feeding issues.
I haven't had a ramp related feed problem with any bullet type in any of my Colts that have thar newer version ramp. Problems, if any, and I'll be looking at grime first and mags second. Haven't polished that stuff since my old accurized bullseye gun with old style parts in it.

At that time I did use factory mags. I now use Chip McCormick power mags
