This particular gun I have not seen many of but I can still get factory parts. I have have also read about the 1911 design being for 45 cartrige not 9mm, but with all parts working right its a fine shoting gun. Is this something colt ventured into and desided against after awhile or what. please give any thought or facts anybody might have

Nice Colt, plumbernater, but we'll need more to go on...at least part of the S/N for starters!

Proofhouse was going to be my first suggestion...and for some reason your second photo showing the left side of the pistol, plus the narrative below it, didn't show up for me until your second post! Anyway, a call to Colt Customer Service would be my second suggestion. I've only had one full size 9mm Colt and it was made in 1972. Shot ok, but I did have a few feeding issues that I attributed to the magazine (no longer have it). My 9mm Commander has been perfect, though. Considering that Colt has produced a zillion pistols in .38 Super, not to mention a lot of 9mm, I don't know that the 1911 being designed for the .45 ACP is much of an issue. I'm sure the historians will come along soon and expound on your pistol!
