During a routine cleaning back in the Spring, I noticed the front (tenon) sight on my Colt was loose. I called Bob Rodgers at Rodgers Pistolsmithing www.rodgerspistolsmithing.com/, described the problem and he told me how to fix it. Bob told me that if it worked loose again, a dovetailed sight would be a great option.

In spite of my best efforts the sight did become loose again so I sent the gun to Bob for a new set of Novaks. He recommended a "wide-notch" rear and I couldn't be happier. Most of my shooting is IDPA and steel matches and the extra width helps me pick up the front sight a lot quicker. Nice work Bob!

As always, here's the Colt porn!

Hersh that's one nice looking Colt. Bob does outstanding work.
I have a series 70 GCNM with a loose front sight that I've been meaning to call him about. I have a new sight blade but am uncertain how to do the work. I was hoping he could perhaps fix me up.
What did he tell you to do to fix it?

Looks good! I had the same problem with a 9mm Colt Conversion kit and had John Harrison dovetail in a front sight for me with a tritium dot.

Alan,
I completely agree with our mutual friend, Creighton!

My Series 70 (current production), in blue steel, has a rear sight that is loosening up. So far, the movement is slight, but I'm definitely going to consider Mr. Rodgers, and your solution, should the situation warrant.

Thanks again. :)

Thanks Joni! If the tenon sight is loose what you have to do is try to peen the tenon inside the slide. What that does is flatten, or mushroom, it making it tighter. It helps if you have a padded vise or extra set of hands.

Give Bob a call, he can certainly explain it better than I can. ;)

Great looking Colt, Hersh! I like the look of the sight picture with the wide notch.

Thanks for the feedback on Rodgers Pistolsmithing.

It's a perfect job, Hersh, and looks great!

The trick is to cut that rear dovetail so as to have the rear of the sight perfectly lined with the line of the rear of the slide and that's what he did.

I like how the front sight retains it's squared flat surface for pushing and still doesn't stick the corners up above the top surface of the slide. Slick and practical!

Very nice. I personally am a big fan of Heinies, but your Novaks look to be an excellent choice.

Being a watch enthusiast as well, I like the watch and Maratac strap combo.

Bob did a great job on the sights. That is a fine looking pistol you have my friend.

Frank,

No hurt, no foul! What are those nice timepieces you posted? I can't quite make out the dials.

Thanks, Hersh and Frank.

Unfortunately, I am more familiar with timezone.com, watchuseek.com, and some of the other watch forums than my wallet would prefer.

Love the pics and watches, Frank.

Hersh,

The one on top is an Armand Nicolet Complete Calendar. And the one on the bottom is a Breguet Marine. They're my "city" watches.

WJR

Thanks for the kind words.
