O.K. I have 20 minutes to post, at last. I did a bad thing yesterday. I shot an xd45. I love my Combat Commander, but I shot the xd better. I know it's my decision, but I'd like some input from maybe someone that's gone this route before......Also , what's a Combat Commander, Satin Nickel frame Blue slide (pre 80 series) going for now.
Slide is about 80% blueing.
p.s Can't have both. That would be too easy.

If basic, I think about $600-$650.

:wl: Need to see your Commander to have any idea of a price you might get for it; 80% blueing remaining is pretty bad. Are you sure it's as bad as that? We aren't because.........:fp:
Read "OLD" where he says "new weapon", son.

Pics would definitely help. That's a really tough question, IMO. If i had to put a figure on it, sight unseen, i'd say $500-600 (if the blueing is poor). This assumes the two-tone is original (which i haven't seen too many of) and the pistol is unmodified.
Personally i'd keep the Commander.... What do you expect from a Colt forum ;)?

If you like your commander don't sell it. Save up to get another gun. Many years ago I sold guns and guitars to buy christmas presents, should have kept the gunS&W model28,didn't miss the guitar long since replaced with strat and les paul, missed the 357.

That's why I posted here and not xdtalk. Just needed a good slap in the back of the head.
The blueing looks like someone before me had reassembled after cleaning and left solvent from their hands on the slide.

So you wanna sell your Combat Commander which will always pretty much hold it's value and will always be more sought after, to buy a "plastic fantastic" throw away XD that will be worth half as much once it's considered used? http://www.raiderfans.net/forum/images/smilies/2007/fryingpan.gif Please re-think that before you end up regretting that choice.
My cousin's wife has a 2 year old stainless slide XD 9mm which she shoots MAYBE once a week, and that gun just looks hammered already, the slide to frame fit is SUPER loose now and rattles more than the Tin Man when he's nervous. It just feels very cheaply made. IMHO the XD would be the last polymer gun I would ever buy, I would get a Glock or HK before I would ever purchase an XD. My suggestion is to put a little bit of money into your commander to have it accurized and you'll have that baby shooting circles around any XD out there.
I can't even believe your Combat Commander doesn't already shoot circles around that XD, I haven't met a Sig, HK, Glock or XD that has shot better than any of my 1911s. Almost everybody I shoot with at my club shoot 1911 platform guns so much better than any other handgun platform out there. Good luck with your decision.

Yea, your right. Should have shot my commander alongside the xd. I must have been having a good day.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Do not sell that Colt.
Swenson ambi safety
King's high grip safety
S&W K sights.
Lord knows what else hard to get or impossible to get part is on there.
That pistol is what every high end custom gun shop is trying to build now and charging 2k and up to do it. A K sight alone installed is around $350.00
Get the slide reblued and love it.
Does it have any markings on it. On the center rail?

Cajun is right...that gun has a lot of very nice additions. If it were mine I would get the whole pistol, not just the slide, refinished. I am a big fan of the Black-T finish and that would cost you less than $200 for the whole pistol and 2 mags.

Good eye Cajun on the Swenson safty and no markings on the center rail. There is a 4, and a triangle stamped on the left side of the triger guard, and either a J or half of a circle on the right side of the guard

It's always fun to buy another pistol, but never, ever sell a Colt for tupperware! You'll be sorry you did it a few years from now.

Or, you could look at it this way.....if the feds ever confiscate our guns, it would cost the taxpayers less to melt down a plastic gun......;) :p

Thanks to everyone for the coltitis booster shot. Maybe it's a "grass is always greener" thing, but it has passed. As I was unloading the commander when I crossed into Illinois and the sunshine hit it just right, it made me wonder what I was thinking. So to make amends with her, she's going in for a slide refinish. It's the least I can do.

Glad you decided to stick it out with the Commander ;).
There's just no comparison between the two, IMHO.

Of course you had the pistol locked in a box, unloaded and in the trunk when you drove into the Peoples Republik of Illinois, to have done otherwise would be in violation of their many firearm laws.
