Here is a Colt 1991A1 that I acquired. Colt dates it 1994. I corresponded with some who worked at the Smithy back when. He said that it was probably customized at the Smithy in 94-95.

The magazines are roman numeraled I, II, and III. The mags, the slide of the gun and each piece of leather is stamped with the "soul chicken" logo.

The gun has been carried a lot. The slide to frame fit is one that befits(a little loose) a daily carry gun and the trigger is a very crisp 4.5 lbs. The sights are black Novaks.

Any other thougts or observations?

It looks great. Simple and well done. The look of a carried Colt is better than that of one that is left on display, in my opinion of course. Not taking anything away from a NIB safe queen or a high dollar custom that never gets used.
I think its the same feeling I get looking at all the tools in the Snap On truck at work. The more I use them the more I appreciate them and their quality.

Nice matching leather.

how do you like the safety. I have been meaning to get one but was unsure if it would stick out more on the side or get in the way.

Again, great pistol and when I mean they look better used and carried do not go looking for someone to mug you just to use it.

Great looking pistol indeed! I'd love to have one worked on by GS.
I also like the look of "working gun". It has character...
I've never seen a safety like that. Curious how you like it?

The safety is generically referred to as the 'gunsite safety'. It is sold these days by Brownells under that name with a slightly different shape to the paddle.

I have small hands and like it very much. I have installed another one on my Norinco 'beater' pistol. It takes a couple of extra days for a new holster to learn the on safe position of this one.

With narrow grips, flat mainspring housing and the 'Gunsite' style low mount safety, a 1911 will accomodate a shooter with very small hands.

Any one have any idea of what this rig would be worth? The magazines are McCormicks with King baseplates.

Have you gotten a chance to shoot it yet? If so, how do you like the sights. My Colt Gunsite Commander I picked up last week also has the all black Novaks and it is taking me a little getting used to...I am not sure I like them after having night sights on almost all my other guns.

And as others have said, great find!

I would say that with the Colt's Gunsite Pistols fetching $1,500.00 and up it would be north of $1,500.00 to low $2,000.00.

That may be high but heck, with the holster and mags it will sure make someone happy.

Oh wait.......its worth $449.89. I will give you an even $500.00 because I like you. :)
