Last week I purchased a new Custom Government 38, 02071ELC2. It shoots like a dream but I was unhappy with the machining of the hammer. So this morning I called Colt, spoke with Joe from the Custom Shop, sent him a picture, and he just emailed me back with the following response: "I put a hammer in the mail for you." Now that's what I call Customer Service! Thank You COLT!!!
Here is the picture I sent him:

Your experience mirrors mine the few times I have had to talk with them. They usually ask you if you want to send the gun back and when you say no they mail you the part. I sure they wouldn't for major parts, but it is nice of them to do it on the small parts.

Very good news. I wonder if that irregularity was produced by the polishing required for that finish.
Doesn't really matter.....just curious on my part. Say how bout some more pics of your new piece??

This one has the Alumagrips installed which I prefer over the stock grips.

Man that is a beautiful pistol, have you had a chance to try her out yet?
I am glad Joe took care of you, I have not had to use Colt customer service for any firearm problems but I did have one of the magazines with my Special Combat Government break and Cindy sent me a new one in the mail after a phone call.

Great shooter! Shoots perfectly as my other Colts do and my other 1911s. I find 1911s the most accurate of all my handguns and they are my favorites as well!
So far I have only shot and chronographed 200 rounds and it performed perfectly. I also have a Special Combat Government (38 Super) and a perfect Gold Cup National Match manufactured in 1978. I love Colts and am starting to collect them.

I too have a Colt problem (just ask my checking account) but I believe it is money well spent.
Looks like you got started right in collecting.

Welcome to the forum, bluewater 8. :wc:
I have the same model and I really like it. I am very partial to bright finishes. Colt has always taken care of me when I have called.

Today I received my new hammer and strut for my Colt CG 38. As I mentioned, Joe from their Custom Shop sent this to me at no charge. Much easier to do it this way then to ship handgun back and forth from Washington State to Connecticut. Anyway, the fit is perfect and I couldn't be happier!!!

It is great to hear when a company like Colt does something the right or sensible way.
I am glad they did not insist on you sending the entire gun to them.

Hello Everyone,
Just joined the forum. Great place !!!!
I am looking at getting a new O5070X Colt Gold Cup Trophy. I really like the shiney finish on your O2071ELC2. You think with careful polishing I could achieve that bright finish with the stainless slide/frame of the O5070X?
Thank you,
Monnie
