An old traded-in Galco Sum218 has been carrying my Defender for a couple of years. It is well worn, like an old treasured hunting coat. ;) Of course, that is the time that wives start looking for replacements. :( Fortunately, she knows better than to throw either in the washing machine. :scared:

She got me a Bianchi Covert Option. It is a nice looker, though it is not suppose to be seen. Oh well... But, in the few times that I've tried it, the paddle that protects the upper gun and body knocks of the thumb safety! It does it about 1/2 the time. And with the new holster, the same tab makes it difficult to manipulate the safety with the gun in it.

The old Galco has no protector at the upper part of the gun, so I can double check the safety after either attaching the gun to the belt or reholstering.

Should I keep working with it and learn to get it "home" without this happening? I don't like not being able to check it when it is holstered. This wasn't a "gift" exactly. We sell this rig, so that part is no sweat. Is this common to this type/style holster?

I'm glad I saw your post. I think this is the same holster I am about to order for my New Agent.

I was going to get the galco since it is readily available but I wanted the body protector. Did you find you wished you had a shield when you had the galco?

I have the same holster in officers size. The safety wore a nice indent in the leather sweat guard. I have had no problem with it swiping off the safety.
I don't use mine any more, I found the ride height was too high for me. Guess I should get rid of it. Switched to a MS Watch Six.

I've not yet used a holster with the shield. My carry gun is stainless, and I don't cause it to rust. I don't know if a shield would make it more comfortable. It isn't bad though.

So I can't really help with the question. As popular as shield models are, I'm sure there is an advantage... of some type.
