A friend of mine pick up a colt ss1911,it says colt govenmentmodel
on the slide,the ser # SS344XXE, I can't find any info on this gun
if anyone knows please let me know.

The "E" at the end of the SN should indicate and "Enhanced" model (undercut trigger-guard, slanted cocking serrations, duckbill grip-safety, etc).
I'm not familiar with any SN beginning "SS". ..Stainless Steel???

I also think the SS is for stainless steel, ( THE GUN IS STAINLESS) a couple of questions if I may,
where can I find out about when it was mfg., an app. value,

I know the SS signifies stainless, I have three of them. ;)
As to dated of manufacture, call Colt Monday and ask, 1-800-962-2658. A good way to get the approximate value is to find similar pistols on some of the Internet sale and auction sites.
