I took the grips off a 1991A goverment model i just got to trade for something else. And this is what i found,a plunger tube that is held in place by the grip screw bushing and the tightened grip. Now for the dumb ?s.Is this originial? Is it a good idea? Was this installed to make the pachmyer extended slidestop work?It looks filed down on top too! What would you do if it was yours? Thanks fellashttp://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/clark-kentski/tube001.jpgandhttp://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/clark-kentski/tube007.jpgandhttp://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/clark-kentski/tube005.jpg and http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/clark-kentski/tube006.jpg

eh ... if it works then i would keep it.

I am one of those people who prefer function over form and worry more about how things work than how they look. in fact, if i knew where i could get one like that i would buy one for a backup.

I've had a 2 plunger tubes loosen, one was the springer factory part, and then a wilson combat that worked loose after only 1000 rounds (restaking was not effective on that one) before i got my current ed brown which is like a rock.

If your going to get rid of the gun i would suggest getting a conventional tube installed for maximum resale value, otherwise i wouldn't worry about it. I doubt an assailant is going to be looking past that .45 caliber hole down the middle and see an ugly plunger tube.

Is this originial?
No - at least not to a U.S.G.I. M1911A1
Is it a good idea?
Yes.
Was this installed to make the pachmyer extended slidestop work?
I don't think so.
What would you do if it was yours?
If it's functions, I'd leave it there.

Looks kinda slick to me. Has anyone seen something like this for sale anywhere? I would kinda like to have one in my parts bag. I assume that the left stock has been modified to accept extra thickness of the plate?

I would buy one if they were available.
