View Full Version : Kimber Custom II + Mech-Tech CCU?

Sorry to cross-post this here, but my thread has gotten almost no traffic over in the "Conversion Kits" section, and I need some help.

I finally got the MT-CCU I've been wanting for the past 6 months. First thing I did was put my Tasco ProPoint on it and then try to get my dead stock Kimber Custom II mated up to it.

No go. I think the ejector is hanging up on the bolt/slide, but I'm not sure. I can barely slip the receiver onto the first 1/8" of the "slide rails" and then it's stopped solid. No amount of wiggling or jimmying will help. If I release the bolt/slide into battery I can move the receiver further down the rails but it won't go all the way home (which is why I suspect the ejector).

Any ideas?

Fortunately I'll still be able to shoot it this weekend because my RIA Compact receiver mates up to it fine. Unfortunately that's not a long-term solution as I would greatly prefer the longer grip of the Kimber frame.

I have no experience with a CCU, but try removing the ejector from the Kimber and see if that helps.

Or maybe clean & degrease the Kinber frame top and coat it with sight black so you can see where the interference is. I use sight black because it comes off a lot, lot easier than a marking pen.

Are you sure its not the extended stock safety of the Kimber Custom II that is causing the issue?

Mechtech CCUs have very little room for extended thumb safeties. Only gun in my stable that did not have an extended safety (an older Alloy P14) would fit properly on the MechTech. But then I'd be without my hi-cap baby when I was using the MechTech, so I went out and got myself an RIA GI. The RIA was a dog by itself, but the frame works fine, so I sold off the top half. It still cost me less to buy the RIA than to assemble my own 1911 lower from parts.

Before you go removing the ejector, try removing the extended safety and trying that Kimber frame again... bet it'll fit.
