Hello. I wounder if anyone knows if a Norinco 9mm slide & barrel fits a Para Ordnance 14-45? Due to the Swedish weapon laws, itīs easier to get a slide than a whole weapon.

Great if anyone could help me with this.

Peter45:

The slide should fit...the amount of work needed (slide to frame fit) could be a little or a lot. In addition you'll need to fit/ have fitted a 9mm/ .38 Super type extended ejector & a 14lb. (for a 5" pistol) recoil spring.

The frame portion of the feed-ramp is typically different on .45 ACP vs. 9mm, etc. 1911's, but I've seen both work. I've found the portion of the feed-ramp on the barrel can make a difference.

As a sidenote, the most consisent feeding 9mm 1911 mags I've found (especially on conversions) is the front-ramp type Springfield mag made by Metalform.

Oh, and if you do "make the switch", you have to post a pic! :D

All Para Ordnance pistols use ramped barrels, unlike most 1911s that have the ramp built into the frame. That's compatability problem number 1. A good gunsmith could modify the frame to incorporate a feed ramp, but then you would not be able to switch back to .45 using the original Para barrel. Therefore, your choice of 9mm barrels is probably limited to those made by Para Ordnance.

Second potential issue is that all Para pistols use Series 80 safety mechanisms. I believe that Norincos do not.

All current/ recent ParaOrd barrels are ramped, but I thought their early P14's (read mid-90's until ???) were a standard two-piece feed-ramp configuration?

Peter45:

If you have a ramped barrel, you would need to supply a 9mm barrel w/ a matching ramp-type (Clark-Para) to make the swap. These barrels are available from BarSto & the like, but usually run close to a couple hundred bucks...without fitting. If you have to pay full retail for a ramped barrel + labor + the slide, you'll probably be spending more than a new pistol.

Thank You, and the others who have helped me. Itīs not really the cost that concerns me, but the fact that itīs har do get a permit to buy more than 6 handguns in Sweden. I belive that Para Ordnance has got slide & barrel "kits" for sale, and since the barrel has no ramp, it might be easier to by Paras barrels.

Thank You/Peter45

Both my P12.45 and P13.45 are early 90's production. In fact, the P13 is a pre-ban pistol that came with a genuine 13-round magazine. Both have ramped barrels.

Where you may be confused is that Para started out selling double stack conversion frames for Colt and other brand single stack pistols. Those frame kits obviously were set up to accept the standard non-ramped barrels from the original guns. Para still offers those frames. They are sold through the Para Pro Shop as the "Gunsmith Kit," and they have versions for both the Series 70 and Series 80 style pistols. I believe in the U.S.A. the Gunsmith Kits are available through Dawson Precision.

You know, I'll bet your right...I had a P14 for a brief time (~1994 or so). I bought the pistol as a complete unit, but it could well have been a different make slide.
