View Full Version : New SA Loaded shooting low

It's a SA Loaded Parkerized with Trijicon Night Sights front & rear.
The new pistol is shooting about 1 1/2 to 2 inches low from POA; I know it's new (150 rounds so far), but it seems consistent. I'll shoot with a rest this Friday to see if it's the me or the pistol.
If it's the pistol, how much metal should I remove from the top of the front sight to move the POI up to POA?
Or should I just shoot 500 or so more rounds to break it in first.
Thanks
Roy

. . . how much metal should I remove from the top of the front sight to move the POI up to POA?
Depends on the sight radius and the range to the target.

Someone told me some of these dot-sight guns are made to print to the dot, not the top of the sights. Sounds like yours shoots about there.

With night sights I would advise not to mess with them - if it continues to shoot low - send it back - they will test fire and replace the sights - and test fire again.
every pistol is different - but mine POI to the dot - six o'clock gets it in the middle at 15yards.
ummm now the test will be when you shoot from the rest! Let us know how it goes.

What's your aim when firing the pistol? Try following what Glenn said, i.e. cover your bullseye with the front dot, instead of aligning the top of your sights with it.

If Glenn's suggestion doesn't work, then I agree with Longslide. Sent it back to Springfield and let them have a look. They had a run of 1911s at one point that had the wrong height sight on them and would consistently shoot low like that. I think the solution was a slightly taller rear sight.

I usually align the front and rear tops at the bottom of the bull. I'll try putting the dot in the center. My other SA loaded shoots the centers out of the bulls with my usual sight picture.
I shoot Benchrest with my riflescope cross hair dot in the dead center of the bull with the rounds printing at 6:00, so this should be no big problem.
Again, thanks for all the good info.

Ah, OK, I would suggest that you first try to align the top uf your sights with the center of the bull, if you are still low then put the front dot right on the bull and align the rear dots with the front one.

You did'nt mention what ammo your shooting?
The hotter the ammo the lower it will shoot.
My bullseye 45 shoots 6" low when I put my JHP carry ammo in it.

Some were 200 gr. Missouri Bullets LSWC w/4.5 grs. Bullseye
Others were 200 gr. Berry's plated SWC ditto 4.5 grs.
More were 200 gr. Berry's plated HP ditto 4.5 grs.

I'll try it like that and get back to you. Probably next week. I'm going to a CCW class next Friday. I might get a chance after the class.
Thanks,

+1 to John's comments. Sights on self defense guns like the Springfield loaded are regulated so that the dot covers the point of aim. You can't sight them at 6 o'clock like a bullseye gun.
