Hello!
Building up a 1911 and I'm pretty keen on the KART easy fit barrel and bushing kits. Whilst pondering possibilities, I wondered, could I fit the 6" barrel to my 5" frame and slide?.. This would ( from what I can work out) depend on whether the Kart barrel is the same diameter an inch back from the crown as it is at the crown. This would mean the bushing will still be a good fit even though the barrel protrudes past it an inch.
What do you guys and gals think?
Is it do-able?
Is there anyone out there who can measure their KART easy fit barrel for me and see if it's parallel?
Any help and or experience appreciated.
Luke

It should work, there are many 1911's out there where the barrel is longer than the slide.

I believe you'll find that the Kart barrel is .005" smaller in outsiide diameter behind the bushing/muzzle area then it is at that bushing end. That's how the 5" versions come anyway, and it's a usual thing with most any "match" replacement barrel.
If it's your intent to have the barrel extend forward from the bushing you'll need to turn it at the end to the bushing diameter or have such a loose bushing that the gun wouldn't shoot well.
You could turn it down to the bushing and turn it further behind the bushing in order to duplicate the original configuration at your 1.0" behind the muzzle point.

Thanks Wichaka and Hill.
I am wondering what barrel options people use when they want to thread the end for a Mod or even suppressor? I could use a little help in narrowing down which match grade barrel and bushing kits are designed for this purpose. I like the KART barrels, do they make one that is designed for this?
Thanks again

If Kart makes one I've never seen it.
I know I've seen them for sale prethreaded but can' recall where - some "tactical" focused website.
Why not google 'suppressors' and follow the leads you get - people gotta' mount the things on something.
f I were doing it for myself I'd use a 6" barrel and turn it as I described above, fit the bushing, cut the barrel to needed length and thread.

I know it's not the Kart, however here is an alternative barrel that might work.
I think the Briley barrel is made straight with no taper, a phone call to Briley would find out for sure.

Kart will make a 6" barrel for a 5" inch slide.
I can't locate the price list that came with my easy fit, but it did clearly state that that option was available.
BTW if anyone could scan that order form that would be great.

That's excellent news DuckRyder, thanks for taking the time to let me know. Anyone know the best way to contact the folks at KART? I'd love to drop them a line and get the ball rolling.

They're old school, so don't have a website, but you won't find nicer folks to deal with.
