I picked up a holster worn ser80 Govt needs a reblue, looking for an alternative to Colt, I am going to probably resell the pistol and don't want to put a $50 saddle on a $5 horse.

Just a stripped slide & stripped frame.

any suggestions for a reliable reasonable refinish?

TIA

I hope this is the correct forum

Colt can refinish your pistol for about the same price as anyone else. The only real savings you'll find is if you can do it locally and save the FedEx shipping charges.

How much do you want as is ? You could duracoat if yo dont want to pay for blueing.

Colt quoted $200 for the stripped frame & stripped slide, to me thats a tad pricey for a ho-hum Govt ser 80?

Could have it Parked for a fraction of that and I have sources for military parking.

+1 for parking it.

You can even get a kit and do it yourself.

The advantage to having Colt do the refinish is that they simply grind down the slide on the slides and re - roll stamp everything so it comes out as if it was new without damaging the roll stamping. No one else can do that.

When I did my armorers training at the factory in 1990 I had occasion to see that being done. Good luck

Anything you do to the series 80 will not be putting a $50 saddle on a $5 horse. Theres alot of copeys good and bad . Alot of people buy cars then put stereos rems ect. on them trying to emprove.

If it has to be refinished have Colt do it and be sure to keep the invoice or worksheet they send back with it. 50 - 100 years from now it'll pay off in spades to be able to have a "factory refinish".

Also, if it's a 1991a1 series 80 Colt can add the horsey emblem they forgot to put on the pistol for about $35. more, from what's been posted here. Whether the horsey adds or detracts is a good question for future collectors.

When you're dealing with a Colt you're working with a national icon, an heirloom. It's not some cast metal replica made in a foreign land, it's the real deal.

Colt has had different blue finishes on their guns troughout the years.
Will the refinish the gun in the approprate finish from that time period, ie pre 80 S colt commander.
