Found some interesting footage on performing a test for those who are fitting a new safety for there 1911. I do believe that some sear movement was designed into the 1911 please correct me if iam wrong. Hope this may help :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t1U_nBY4C0&NR=1

Wrong. The thumb safety should prevent all sear movement. GI-spec pistols with long, undersquare hammer hooks are allowed .005 inch of movement before being deemed unserviceable...but ideally, there should be zero movement when the safety is on and the trigger is pulled.
