i found a 1911 i am interested in but im not sure of what to offer for it. it is VERY different.
ww1 frame (assuming colt) with serial: No 336xxx "united states property" marked on left. no other markings other that a small icon on left side with "S14" underneath. awesome condition bluing is perfect, no dings or scratches, 2 mags
remington rand slide, writing shorter than the slide stop. no bluing left on slide slight surface rust but cleanable
barrel says "colt 45 acp" on left side and a "P" marked on the piece that hangs on the bottom of the barrel.
action works well, no excessive play anywhere.
BACKGROUND: came from ret. air force officer estate.....including a M1 carbine with 2 original mags, stripper clips with ammo, 100% condition with sling and mag pouch and IN ORIGINAL BOX! not a scratch or dent on the box or the gun
i like the gun because of its history with parts from ww1 and ww2, i think it is interesting to think about what the different parts have seen and love how "unique" this firearm is. but is it worth the 700 asking price especially with parts that are so mismatched
my next part of the question: if i do buy it i want a "shooter", should i find a ww1 slide for it and return it to original and sell to collecter. i want one i can take to Clarks (i live within 5 miles) have worked over into a very nice shooter with new barrel, bushings, trigger work done, new spring, hard chrome coating done, checkering on the backstrap and front of grip. i want something i can shoot 1000's of rounds thru and enjoy and not a piece to be put on a shelf
